The Communications Officer manages the main communications board of a starship. Their typical responsibilities include:
- Monitoring communications of a ship's incoming and out-going communications
- Monitoring fleet-wide communications from the command battlestar of a Battlestar Group or other fleet
- Ensuring all communications are properly logged
- Relaying communications to a battlestar's Vipers and Raptors during off-ship missions
- Managing other minor CIC operations in the absence of the Senior Officer of the Watch
