The ''Galatea'' is probably named for main character in the Greek myth ''Pygmalion''.  Pygmalion the sculptor creates a statue of a woman, it is so beautiful that he falls in love with it, and the gods reward him by bringing ''Galatea'' to life.

The Galatea is a ship in The Fleet. The ship has yet to be seen, but its name was shown on the voting tally board in "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II".
