The term appeared to originate from the 1896 edition of the International Cloud Atlas, where the cumulo-nimbus cloud was given the designation of nine, which was the highest altitude that a cloud could be, according to information from the [http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/cloud_nine Wiktionary]. However, it is just one of many terms of Earth-origin used on the show.
