According to this article the Heavy Raider requires a pilot. I don't have the episodes on hand to check, but has any character been seen actually operating the controls on this ship? Although none of the pictures in the article show it clearly, the Heavy Raider does have a Cylon "head" in the manner of regular Raiders and Centurions, although it is offset to the right rather than front-and-centre. There are some pictures that show the Cylon head on the Heavy Raider here: http://galacticastation.com/Screencaps/S2/205/bscap0297.htm and here: http://galacticastation.com/Screencaps/S2/205/bscap0298.htm. The Heavy Raider is also known to be partially organic, like the smaller Raiders (i.e. the nav computer from "Lay Down Your Burdens"). So the Heavy Raider might potentially have the same autonomy as a Raider or a Centurion, but with the added capacity to transport and receive mission-oriented commands from Cylon agents (or sneaky Colonials) on board.--Steve 06:00, 22 November 2006 (CST)

:Based on dialogue in The Road Less Traveled, Heavy Raiders can autonomously pilot themselves, however dialogue in The Road Less Travelled and The Hub indicates that humanoid Cylon pilots can assume complete control of them. We still haven't seen the interior of a Heavy Raider, and according to the podcast there isn't (or at least wasn't) a Heavy Raider set, so we probably won't see what they look like on the inside unless there's interior concept art. -- Gordon Ecker 08:27, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Revision as of 03:58, 28 July 2008

Please note that the Cylon craft seen landed on Kobol during Fragged is likely not a Heavy Raider, but rather a yet Unidentified Cylon Craft. Please see that other page for reasons why this is likely the case.

In other pages some people even theorized that it was the Raptor the Centurions were dismantling for parts, but I consider this to be far less likely. --Laven 20:15, 4 Aug 2005 (EDT)

This is a really bad pic. I cannot load my own, but I'd rather have none. The current pic doesn't really show the shape of the Heavy Raider. All over bad angle. ---Ricimer, 28 Sept, 2005.

It was the best pic of a Heavy Raider I could find, Its better get a picture of what it looks like than having none. I have another that shows part of the top view of the raider, but does not show the front. It alteasts shows the cockpit and the 6 mounted guns. If you find a better picture, please replace it at once. ---Blacklight 27 September (PST)
Don't link to offsite images. --Peter Farago 01:32, 28 September 2005 (EDT)
We should post either of those two as a picture rather than just a link. The Ship on Kobol IS indeed the heavy raider, it is similar in every single aspect, from size, to design, trust me. It is also that ship that they were cannibalizing, the Cylons were cannibalizing the 2 front spokes, they were taken out. So We know the Heavy Raider has a Dradis Dish, a missile launcher, and is the typical Cylon Transport, at least for Centurions. I', quite convinced it is actually the same ship we see throughout season 1. Though they may be slightly different, someone may want to compare by checking Kobol's Last Gleaming Part 2, inside the hangar we get a wide shot before it zooms to Boomer landing the raptor, there are raiders and heavy raiders in the hangars around, so I think its the same ship, I suggest a merging of the articles, until further notice.--Sauron18 14:15, 23 December 2005 (GMT)
I agree. There doesn't appear to be much room for controversy on this. --Peter Farago 20:20, 23 December 2005 (EST)

Imageshack image

Ive noticed this on several pages but changed it here first because id like to know the stance from the admins on this. I just uploaded the images linked to from imageshack to this site but im not sure if i linked them right. I didnt know the code to properly link to an image file other thahn the way ive done it now. Some input by someone who knows what they are doung would be great. Here is a list of other pages i found with imageshack hosted pictures

The links work. Did you mean for them to be inlined? --Peter Farago 15:37, 23 March 2006 (CST)
I wasnt sure if there was a special way of linking to images inline thats all. At the moment its set up as an external link that just to happens to be on this server Mercifull 15:41, 23 March 2006 (CST)

Removed images as I have utilised the "gallery" feature --Mercifull 08:31, 19 May 2006 (CDT)

Earlier Heavy Raider sighting

1.) There is a Heavy Raider in season 1 even before "Colonial Day". In "Tigh me up, Tigh me down" where Helo and Sharon are in the sewers and the Cylons search for them. One can be seen in the background with the Cylons above them when Sharon takes a look. Timeindex ~31:10
2.) Also, we know that they can be used as troop transport from "Scattered" and "Valley of Darkness". "The Farm" isn't really necessary to proove that though we see the cargo hold --Serenity 11:01, 19 September 2006 (CDT)

 • Indeed, the first time we saw it was when Sharon opens the lid of the sewer and we see one of them shining a ligt, as well as an other flying in the background.--Sauron18 12:13, 19 September 2006 (CDT)

Heavy Raider's Autonomy

According to this article the Heavy Raider requires a pilot. I don't have the episodes on hand to check, but has any character been seen actually operating the controls on this ship?
