Drawing on his '80s ad agency experience, Vlaming decided to create something special and mail it to Carter. What he came up with was a piece of special-effects sponge sculpted into the shape of an alien embryo floating in a pickle jar, all wrapped up in piece of paper that said, " My God, Mulder, it's trying to communicate!" Vlaming has written scripts for North Exposure, The Adventures of Bisco County Jr., Weird Science, The X-Files, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Xena: Princess Warrior, NCIS, Touching Evil and Numb3rs.
Vlaming also worked as a story editor on The X-Files and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, as well as a producer on NCIS.
