I need help. I already registered at this Wiki and made 1 or 2 edits, but I had to re-register because this wiki was acting like my account didn't exist. : Well, this happened. Unfortunately, five days of data was lost because of database corruption... it's a technical issue that shouldn't happen again. How can such a thing happen? Five whole days of editing, gone... I heard this happened once at Memory Alpha. What safeguards are in place to prevent whole wikis from being lost? Also, the link you provided said it affected all wikis, but nothing seems to have gone wrong at my primary watering hole, Wiki 24. Were Wikia wikis exempt? : Technology... gotta love it. We do have backups, which is how we were able to lose only five days of content; it could've been much worse. Ironically, the MySQL server crash came only two or three hours before the database was going to be backed up again. We're also working on things from the server end, and may get a slave server for the main database server, which should act as a load balancer. (And thus be able to do backups without clogging the works.)
: Also, we're not part of Wikia, so that's why the Wikia wikis were not affected. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 07:12, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Well, now that I think about it, like you say the data loss was rather minimal. You guys are doing better than Cyclons, who flew their only hub around with almost no security. You'd think they'd install a hub on each of their occupied planets, or something? Out of curiosity, do you know if such losses have happened on Wikia, or if they have safeguards as well? Problem with the wiki

I need help. I already registered at this Wiki and made 1 or 2 edits, but I had to re-register because this wiki was acting like my account didn't exist. My earlier registration isn't in your user creation log. Worse, the edit I remember making has 100% disappeared from the page history of the character. What the hell is happening? Well, this happened. Unfortunately, five days of data was lost because of database corruption... it's a technical issue that shouldn't happen again. So feel free to edit the articles you had edited previously. :) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 03:32, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Technology... gotta love it.
Also, we're not part of Wikia, so that's why the Wikia wikis were not affected. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 07:12, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
