The rank of Commander, in the Colonial forces, is senior to a Colonel but below an Admiral. Officers who command a single ship (as opposed to a fleet) hold the rank of Commander.
Characters to hold the rank of Commander:
- William Adama, commanding officer of Galactica, prior to his promotion by President Laura Roslin.
- Jack Fisk, former XO of Pegasus, following the death of Helena Cain and continuing until his murder.
- Barry Garner, former engine room chief of Pegasus, until his death in a Cylon trap.
- Lee Adama, then Pegasus XO, following the death of Garner and continuing until the destruction of the Pegasus. It can be theorized that this was a temporary or acting rank, as Apollo reverted to his earlier rank of Major upon resuming his old post of CAG aboard Galactica.
