The fleet finds Earth and to their amazement, it is indeed,the long lost,13th colony. Similar in appearance and stature, the long lost 13th tribe, is just as advanced, if not, more advanced, militarily and culturally, than the 12 tribes of Kobol. Mars, Venus, Saturn, Jupiter were soon either colonized or used as mining operations. Space stations were constructed and soon dotted the Milky Way galaxy. Massive commerce ships were built, for transport, entertainment, commerce. Military ships were built on the scale of the Battlestar Galatica and Pegasus.
As Galatica and its ragtag fleet entered the Milky Way system, their first encounter with any Earth-based technology is an old satellite orbiting the Milky Way's outer most planet, Uranus ( Pluto was considered but since its been taken off the "planet" radar, Uranus will have to do--insert all juvenile jokes in regards to Uranus here. lol ). Encountering this ancient satellite diminishes any hopes that their long lost Earth brethern are technologically as advanced as they are and fears abound that this satellite is like the foreign object they found on board a Basestar that carried a virus that almost exterminated the Cylons.
Adama orders a Raptor to take a closer look of this ancient satellite. To everyone's surprise and delight, they see English words written on the side of the oblong object--"Zeus-One". Zeus naturally being the King of all the Gods, many can not believe their luck. Their first true sign that they have found Earth, or are very close to it. As a precaution, to prevent any unknown viruses infecting the crew from this foreign object, Adama has the Raptor crew quarantine the object and bring it to a small cargo ship among the fleet. Adama feels that if the foreign object is either a bomb or a bioweapon like the one that almost eliminated the Cylons, he doesn't want it to happen on Galatica. To everyone's relief, after close inspection, the foreign object is clean and safe for inspection, albeit futile since its technology is ancient and rudimentary.
As Galatica pass Jupiter they are surprised to see 2 massive space stations, patrolled by 2 Battlestars similar in appearance and size to Galatica. Adama doesn't know if these foreign Battlestar-looking ships are human or "unknowns". Hostile or friendly. Adama orders battlestations. Contact is made on Dradis after Adama's communications officer ( baltar's buddy- gaeta ) is able to decipher the signal being sent by these foreign Battlestars, which is similar but ever so slightly different, to their own signal. The foreign ship is human ( or at least they appear human, speaking English ( but as Adama says, in a weird dialect of course ).
The foreigners ship, a Galatica size super attack ship, is called The United Earth Space Class Atlas One ( UASC--Atlas one ) ( There are, in total, 20 U.E.S.C. ships, with the pricipal bulk of the fleet orbiting Earth and Mars. )
A meet to meet is agreed on, where Adama authorizes Helo and Apollo to take a Raptor and meet up with a corresponding ship from this "United Earth". Adama had conferred with one Admiral Marks, admiral of Atlas One, and they agree to meet on The Jupiter Space Station. Platform B. There the Raptor is escorted by 2 similar looking vessels and 2 Viper looking fighter vessels to the boarding dock, where Admiral Marks has sent his number one ( nod to Star Trek n.g. there ) Captain Charles Wilkes and his support group. A Raptor size transport vessel called the Gremlin ( named after an ancient and incredibly ugly car by that said name) lands parallel to Apollo's Raptor.
When Adama and his crew and President Roslin meet their Earth representatives, they are pleasantly surprised to see that their long lost Earth cousins are humans. Wilkes and his crew bring along their historian, Zeezoo Akkio ( a very old Kung Fu looking Chinese gentleman who loves to speak in rythms ). Akkio prosphesed the coming of Galatica but oddly never saw the impending Cylon destruction, only hazely recalling from ancient text of " brothers and sisters from the stars finally reaching out and relocating to Eden, i.e. Earth. "
Arrangements are made and formalities exchanged but Wilkes has to unfortunately inform the Galatica and its ragtag fleet that no one will be setting foot on Earth anytime soon, for fear the new arrivals carry foreign diseases and plagues ( another omnious sign of the ancient satellite that nearly wiped out the Cylons ). Akkio nods solemnly as Wilkes explains this, saying that Earth's earliest settlers experimented with chemical bioweapons in the early years of the Space travels, with almost deadly results. Wilkes goes on to explain that all new arrivals are first quarantined on the colonial Mars settlements, and after being screened and subjected to various tests, every new arrival will be granted visitation rights to Earth. then after another round of screening, permanment placement. This is done to protect the fragile environment on Earth.
At first, this upsets Adama and the crew but Roslin understands and she gives a speech to calm everyone Adama and everyone. No one realizes that Earth is not the Eden it is led to believe but a protected place that its own habitants, the 13th Tribe, is obsessive about protecting.
In private, Adama and his crew tell Wilkes and Akkio of the nuclear destruction by their enemies, the Cylons, who after nearly wiping out 95% of the 12 colonies, have been ruthlessly hunting the surviving fleet and Galatica. Shocked and saddened by this, Wilkes and Akkio are not outright surprised and just solemnly inform Adama that he needs to see Admiral Marks as soon as possible. Adama requests that President Roslin join him and its agreed.
Adama and his son, Apollo,and Roslin, board a Raptor and are escorted by Wilkes' Gremlin back to Atlas One, where Adama meets his counterpart, Admiral Marks. In his private chambers, Admiral Marks is told of the destruction of the 12 colonies. Roslin, Adama and Apollo recount the horrors to Marks. Wilkes and Akkio are also in attendance.
To Adama, Apollo and Roslin's surprise, Admiral Marks tells them that here on Earth, they too had evolved to the point of creating A.I. artifical intelligence, but unlike the 12 colonies, United Earth, never enslaved their Cylon versions, which they simply called A.I. or A's for short. The A's became sentient beings and were instrumental in helping humanity in wiping out a devastating bioweapons accident, that killed hundreds of millions of humans 100 years ago. Hundreds of years ago? asks Adama in utter shock. Yes. On Earth, the A's were created some 50 years before the 12 colonies created their Cylons, making Earth's AI's more advanced than their cylons. Roslin asks if the A's look and appear human. Yes and no. They look more organic but they chose to create their own look and not to copy humans. This was done as to differentiate them from the dying humans during the plague. Asked if the A's ever killed or harmed or attacked any humans, Admiral Marks simply responded--"They have been our allies for many, many years. Rebellious, terrorist human factions have attacked A's and humans alike and in the early years, there was prejudice towards them but after they were very instrumental in saving humanity, a new understanding and appreciation was formed." Asked what do the A's look like, Admiral Marks tapped his ear and, as if appearing to speak to no one visible, says--Hello Janitz. Could you please come to my private quarters. I have some new visitors who would like to meet you. Thank you". Moments later, a humanoid voice announces to Admiral Marks that Janitz is at his door. The door opens and 2 beings appear. One looks human but with greyish skin coloring and no hair. The other is a slightly larger, obvious robot. ( Not menacing looking like the Cylons Centurion though. More like the A.I. Robot from the Wil Smith movie but with more mechanical features, fitting a soldier). "gentleman and madam president, i would like you to meet Sir Janitz from the AI Federation. Next to him is Opus One, his personal assistant". Apollo mumbles " bodyguard more like it". "Opus indeed appears that way but he's a gentle giant" janitz smiles and seemingly glides into the room, past Apollo. Opus One simply nods to Apollo and company in a completely neutral way.
Janitz is told of the 12 Colonies and their destruction by their own created Cylons and their desperate flee to Earth, not knowing if Earth actually existed. " These Cylons. Do you have any of them among your fleet?" Janitz asks Adama and Roslin. "yes we have one that is a member of my crew. Her name is Sharon and she looks human. Like us" Adama answers. " ahhh. so the Cylons evolved to copy their creators. Interesting paradox there. Later choosing to rebel and kill the Father" Janitz nods. Opus finally says, in a robotic voice " their programming is corrupted."
Just as more discussion is going to take place....
the Cylons jump into the Jupiter Space Station orbit. The cylon basestars immediately launched their missles just as they appeared after the jump. perfect timing on their part. 4 basestars appear. Somehow the Cylons were able to jump from the outermost edge of the Milky Way and to Earth's doorstep. "They were following us and chose this time to jump on our coordinates. They were tracking us!" Adama screams.
Red Alert lights immediately go on. Admiral Marks excuses himself and flanked by Adama and Wilkes, he enters his Command Center, a gigantic room that has massive windows showcasing most of Jupiter space station as well as the orbiting Atlas One and its many support vessells. Atlas One is flanked by the Galatica. Atlas Five and Atlas Six. are behind Galatica and Atlas One ( not visible from the Command Center vistas ). Rows and rows of computer terminals and monitoring stations manned by men, women and A's work in one cohesive move to decipher any information and instantly react to Admiral Marks' orders.
"These are Cylon Basestars. Your people by now have received our intel on these. Very capable ships. Estimated that each Basestar has upwards of 130 Cylon Raider attack ships." Adama tells Marks, who is ordering and orchestrating his Atlas' to intercept these 4 basestars.
< The other Atlas ships are: On the opposite side of Earth.,at the Premiere Space Station, 6 Atlas' are docked ( Two, Three, Four, eight, nine, nineteen). on Mars are ( seven and ten). On Venus are ( fourteen, seventeen, and twenty) and on Earth, on the land, are (twelve and thirteen-both being retrofit ). Fifteen and Sixteen are in the dry dock being repaired, after returning from long range scientific explorations ).>
"Sir, we have incoming!!! 50 missles have been launched from each of the 4 basestars! Most directed at Galatica and the Atlas. " a junior level officer informs Admiral Marks. "Countermeasures. Launch the Talons. Atlas Five and Six, form a ring around the Galatica!!" Marks orders. "And launch the missles." Wilkes nods and orders " measure Alpha T--3's. 30% semi-pherical. Pattern one-beta-number 3". Hundreds of missles flare out from the missle torrents of the Space Station as dozens and dozens of Atlas support vessell scramble to to escape the incoming missles. Some are instantly vaporized while others manage to find the safe haven landing bays.
Atlas Five and Six, incredibly quickly manuever themselves between the basestars and the incoming missles and Galatica and Atlas One, taken the blunt of the impact of the missles.
"What kind of protection does your Atlas' have Admiral?" Adama asks. "those missles are most likely nukes". Wilkes responds--" Atlas' have quadruple skull shielding. They're built to withstand mega ton nukes as well as any man made missles".
The 50 missles launched by the 4 basestars, who are now manuevering to launch their raiders, hit the Atlas Five and Six hard but the Atlas' seem to have taken the impact without major destructions and they have already each launched their Talons and their missles.
Marks orders his Vipers ( called Talons) to intercept the Cylon Raiders who have already launched.
"Admiral, can i have communique with my Galatica? I need to order my ship to take battle stations and launch their Vipers!" Adama asks. "of course Admiral" Admiral Marks responds. "but first allow me a small request. Allow my Atlas' to take a strike at this bastards. Consider it a long overdue payback for almost wiping out my far away cousins!"
Counterguns are blazing from not only the Atlas Five and Six. On his order, Atlas One, unleashes its massive volley of missles and its 4 squandrons of Talons. "First we hit em with our missles and then our Talons, then we rip them apart with our Lasers!" Marks stares out at the war scape playing out in front of them in space.
"Laser weapons?" Apollo asks incredulously. "yes"Wilkes responds. "Laser weapondry has been part of our arsenal for close to 100 years."
Within a few minutes, one of the basestars is destroyed and the massive Talon squandron, have destroyed all but a few Raiders who are fleeing now. " I want those Raiders. Nicolas, I want Talon squandron to aprehend at least 3 of those Raiders! We need to get intell on them asap!" Wilkes orders.
" you won't like what you discover" Apollo deadpans. "The Raiders are living organisms. No pilots. So capturing one is difficult almost impossible" Just as he says this 'Sir, Talon Blue Squandron Leader Omega Domino has captured 2 Raiders!" a junior officer informs Wilkes and Marks.
The other 3 basestars jump drive and disappear. Atlas Four, Nine and Three appear over the horizon, heading towards the Space Station and Atlas' One, Five, Six and Galatica.
Adama marvels at the quickness and military power that he just witnessed. "don't be so impressed" Marks interjects. "Atlas Six is pretty damaged and we took some casualities. Six will be in dry dock for some time to fix its outer hull which looks to have taken the brunt of those Cylons missles. " "nukes" Adama says flatly.
Janitz looks puzzled and confers with Opus and they seem to be perplexed and bewildered. Wilkes and Marks stop what they are doing to ask whats wrong? " i was just told that these Cylons seem to have taken? 2 of the Talons along with them when they jumped drive." " The only two Talons that were operated by the A's".
"What?" Marks asks increduly. " how on Earth? how the frak did we not see that?" Wilkes asks < note the usage of "frak". a connection of the 13th tribe with the 12 Colonies<.
"They seemed to know which one of our Talons were being operated by the A.I.'s". "how? I do not know and that puzzles me." Janitz says. " We need to get more intel on these Cylons, for they have certainly taken the upper advantage here"
"What are they going to do with the A's?" asks Apollo.
"They will dissect and study what makes my people, my race, so special and unique and then they will, inevitably, try to corrupt and manipulate our intelligence and sentience and attempt to infiltrate our civilization." janitz solemnly says. "if they fail, then they will declare war on the AI's and attempt to send harmful viruses to infect and kill us, just as they bombed your people".
"Janitz. Sir. You should get back to Earth and confer with your government. I'm sending my best pilots to escort you and Opus back." Marks orders. "Adama, sir, because of these cylons suddenly appearing, we must escalate and get your fleet to safety. High Command will authorize all Atlas' to surround your fleet and the Talons will be on 24 hour non stop patrols."
A lower level officer announces to Admiral Marks--"sir. They just attacked the Perimeter Space Station". 3 more basestars just appeared and took out...Atlas Two, and Eight". ....Have reports coming in.....Nineteen is...is heavily bombaring one of the basestars...looks like..yes..destroyed..one basestar is gone...From Venus..Seventeen and Twenty are jumping as is from mars' Seven."
"my gods..its happening again" Roslin frighteningly looks out to see on a smaller large screen, intercepting talons dogfighting with raiders, an image taken live from one of the Atlas'. and the Atlas' massively bombarding basestars. Huge explosions from the Premiere Space Station. 2 basestars are destroyed. One basestar seems to try to jump but is destroyed mid cycle so its entire body is contorted and then ripped in half.
"folks...looks like these Cylons don't know who they are messing with" Marks says as yet another Atlas appears over the Horizon. "sir its Eleven. She just came from Europe Station on Earth!"
" Four more basestars have just appeared...."
.............. The cylons corrupt,infiltrate and attempt to change the AI's. so they are more like them. hating humans. it works. temporarily. Janitz and Opus lead a group that heroically save their race by secretly kidnapping Sharon and Six and Baltar from one of the basestars, to force them to help they save the AI's. Meanwhile, Adama and his crew must also fight an unknown enemy that doesn't want the 12 Colonies coming back to Earth. A battle royal emerges as the Cylons send every basestar and raider they have ever created to have one last almighty battle to end battles with their most feared enemy--humans.
