Isn't this a bit too much of a satellite article? There's no actual information here other than mentioning that it exists. A gimbal is "a mechanical device that allows the rotation of an object in three dimensions. It is typically made up of a pair of pivots, mounted on axes at right angles, that allow an object mounted on it to remain in a horizontal plane regardless of the motion of its support. Shipboard compasses, chronometers, and even drink holders are typically mounted on gimbals to keep them level to the horizon at all times." More relevant to the Raptor was the next paragraph (my bad). "In aerospace navigation, a gimbal is a device using Euler angles to measure the rotation of an object in three dimensions and to control that rotation. Gimbals used in spacecraft have three sets of three gyroscopes in the inertial measurement unit (IMU), one for each axis (x, y, and z). oh it's Gimbal! I blame this transcript (see 0:23:20 the Chief/Boomer bit). No wonder i couldn't discover what it was ... they'd spelt it wrong. Thankyou for clearing that up, it's been driving me nuts. I'm happy now - remove whatever i did. -cruentus

Right you are. I can hardly blame them, as I didn't know what a gimbal was before today (and had I transcribed it I may have spelled it like that... if I wasn't such of a "wiki-linker" to go track it down to link it). Pretty handy having the timestamps like that on the transcripts. I added a gimbal note in the "Notes" of Raptor (unless somebody can find a better home for it), and will delete this article. --Steelviper 07:19, 13 July 2006 (CDT)
