An appropriate nickname of a prisoner that was found drifting in space in, apparently, a space craft that met with disaster. The "Silent One", apparently a male by the sound of things, drew objects (in particular a map of a solar system) that confounded the intoxicated prisoners on penal planetoid Proteus. When Starbuck commented on Boxey's drawing, saying that a planet was off an orbit, Robber remarked about the Silent One and his drawings in the cell that Starbuck -- a.k.a. Bootlegger 137 -- was thrown in for the duration of his stay. (The Long Patrol)

This is yet another clue that Earth was more than a fable of "half-drunken star voyagers", as Baltar spitefully commented. (Lost Planet of the Gods) We can probably presume that the Silent One was Human, at least by appearance, and that the Earth he came from was advanced enough for intergalactic travel -- or maybe even extragalactic. It could also be that the Silent One was a humanoid who mimicked a Human appearance, but could not master the language, and that the alien mimicker might as well have been setting up clues for the <i>Galactica</i>'s discovery of Earth. (Thus indicating that there was more to the rag-tag fleet's journey than avoiding the Cylon tyranny.)
"Silent One" might have been a Being of Light, akin to either John or Iblis.
