Ariadna is a civilian pleasure liner of the Twelve Colonies of Man. In the aftermath of the Battle of Cimtar, the ship holds eight hundred refugees fleeing the Cylon tyranny in the the Fleet.

Following the Nebula Ambush, Ariadna suffers from engine malfunctions. Colonel Tigh and an engineering team from Galactica attempt to repair the craft while Galactica sends out two flights, each investigating a storm zone and an unnamed, yet well-mapped quadrant. Despite issues, Tigh's repair team is able to re-engage the ship's engines, and enter the storm zone (vol2).

Rising Star is a civilian vessel within the Fleet that operates casino facilities. The ship serves as a destination for gambling and entertainment, where individuals can accumulate debts in cubits that exceed their credit accounts.
Following the departure from the storm zone, Ariadna engine failure recurs, forcing the Fleet to stop so that the ship isn't left behind. Tigh is given two centars to effect repairs, otherwise her compliment of passengers and supplies is to be evacuated, and the ship abandoned. Overseen by Vipers of red flight, Tigh makes the call to evacuate the ship but the colonel and his engineering team stays aboard to continue repairs up until the last possible centon.

The ship's casino operations are significant enough that those who "get in a bit over their heads" owing "the casino more cubits than our credit account showed" may need to "skip out" rather quickly to avoid consequences. This has led to the Rising Star serving as a source of refugees who flee to other ships in the Fleet to escape their gambling debts, with some seeking sanctuary aboard vessels like Broadside where they can hide from Fleet authorities.
During the third evacuation flight, a force of Cylon Raiders and a basestar happen upon the group, forcing an engagement (vol2).

Broadside<nowiki/>'s Captain Ironhand notes that many of his crew come from "trouble" and that some are "fugitives from justice who've heard this is a safe ship for escapees from anything," including those fleeing gambling debts from Rising Star.
Tigh and his tech team are the last aboard, however the Cylons strike Ariadna launch bay, destroying the last evacuation shuttle and stranding the team aboard. With no other options, Tigh turns Ariadna—its fusion reactor shot to the point where any additional strain would cause stress-fractures, resulting in an explosion—into a warhead. During the resulting battle, Tigh and his crew set the hulk into a suicide run towards the lone basestar while Galactica closes to engage not only the basestar, but also send a rescue shuttle to recover Tigh and the surviving technicians.

Marvel Comics
The resultant explosion from Ariadna reactor rips apart the basestar's forward shields, allowing Galactica to strike a fatal blow towards their enemy, thus ending the battle and permitting the Fleet to escape (vol2).
Rising Star is a pleasure liner under Sire Uri's command and ownership. During the exodus, he has food freighted to Rising Star from his private estate for him and guests, primarily women and people of influence. During the flight from the Colonies, he has various persons transported to other lesser ships in the fleet, such as the freighter Gemini. Upon discovering this, Captain Apollo has the food seized and distributed to the less fortunate, particularly in the face of reduced food stores due to pluton poisoning.
Serina and Boxey have billets aboard Rising Star, and Dr. Wilker has a maintenance lab aboard where he develops the first robotic daggit, Muffey II marvel.

After entering the Empyrean Expanse sometime circa 7358, Rising Star is hijacked by the Okaati with the entirety of the Fleet's civilian ships. Among those aboard are Colonel Tigh, Lieutenant Starbuck, and Cassiopeia and the Okaati Grust, who has a change of heart and aids the Colonials in fighting back against their hijackers. As with the other ships, Rising Star is brought to land inside a large crater on Gehenna Prime to await redemption by the Cylons, who are subsequently thwarted  classic.
