'''Ragnar Anchorage''' (also known as '''Ragnar Station''' and '''Ragnar Station Ammunition Reserve''') is an unmanned orbital refueling station and naval armory, suspended in the upper atmosphere of the gas giant [[Ragnar]], that distills hydrocarbons from the planet's upper atmosphere.
'''Ragnar Anchorage''' (also called "Ragnar Station" or "Ragnar Station Ammunition Reserve") is a Colonial armory suspended in the upper atmosphere of the gas giant [[Ragnar]] ([[Miniseries]]).

== History ==
When the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons]] launch their [[Cylon Attack|surprise attack]] on the [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)|Twelve Colonies]], the [[battlestar]] ''[[Galactica]]'' was caught without any munitions for her main and point-defense batteries, having dumped them as part of her decommissioning ceremonies prior to the battle. [[Saul Tigh|Colonel Tigh]] determines that Ragnar Anchorage offers the best opportunity for re-arming the ship, even though it is some 3 days' travel from ''Galactica'''s position at [[sublight]] speeds and [[William Adama|Commander Adama]] refers to docking at Ragnar Anchorage as a "super bitch." His decision may well be based on the sound reasoning that the Anchorage, suspended in the stormy upper atmosphere of the planet [[Ragnar]], offered ''Galactica'' the best opportunity to re-arm while reducing the risk of the Cylons finding them and renewing their planned attack before the ship can defend herself. The [[Colonial Fleet (RDM)|Colonial Fleet]] was aware that the atmosphere of the planet Ragnar's radiation adversely affects [[Silica pathways|Cylon technology]], and hiding ships in the planet was an established strategy.
Ragnar Anchorage is most likely a remnant of the First [[Cylon War]] (or earlier), and is largely unkempt and abandoned by the Colonials. On the exterior, the station features three massive rotating habitat ringed sections, the "top" ring being unfinished or scrapped for parts, and as many as seven airlocks on the station's "cap.

The interior of the station features a dark, damp, and largely exposed environment and somewhat hostile atmosphere to any Human (or Cylon) inhabitants. What's left of its ammunition and supplies stores is strewn about near the airlocks in large warehouse areas, largely forgotten.
While at Ragnar Anchorage, ''Galactica'' obtains enough munitions to completely re-arm her guns, and she also collects a number of [[Class-D]] warheads. Her crew also encounter [[Leoben Conoy]], posing as an arms trader, who eventually gives the Colonials their first discovery of [[Cylon agent|humanoid Cylon infiltrators]].

The [[Colonial Fleet (TRS)|Colonial Fleet]] had created this station in this location, aware that the atmosphere's radiation adversely affects [[Silica pathways|Cylon technology]]. The EM field of the atmosphere affects [[DRADIS]], weapons targeting and navigation, making it impossible for the Cylons to chase and attack within the Ragnar atmosphere. The station is infamous among the Colonial Fleet as a "super bitch" to dock to, likely due to the turbulence experienced by ships traveling within the tenuous upper layers of the atmosphere.

Ragnar holds no known offensive or defensive weapons, and appears permanently berthed in the upper atmosphere of Ragnar, indicating the station holds no sublight engines or [[FTL]] drives.
While at Ragnar, ''Galactica'' is joined by a civilian convoy of survivors gathered by new President [[Laura Roslin]]. When they arrive, Adama is persuaded to alter his original plan to send ''Galactica'' into a suicidal fight against the Cylons into one of exodus from the Colonies to save the last of humanity.

Ragnar Anchorage was the rendezvous site where the surviving civilian Colonials met the battlestar ''[[Galactica (TRS)|Galactica]]'', then known to be the only surviving Colonial military vessel. It was from here that they [[Battle of Ragnar Anchorage|made their escape]] from the Colonial solar systems, never to return. The station is presumed to have been abandoned or destroyed following the successful retrieval of [[Aaron Doral]] by Cylon forces after the battle {{TRS|Miniseries}}.
''Galactica'' protects her new [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] as they make a [[FTL|Jump]] from Ragnar towards the [[Promar Sector]], well beyond the "[[Red Line]]" of chartered space, never to return to the solar system of the Colonies in an effort to escape the Cylons.

Soon after the battle, the Cylons dock at the station to retrieve the Cylon agent [[Aaron Doral]] and afterwards presumably abandon  the station.

==Notes==
*The name "Ragnar" is an homage to [[Wikipedia:Ragnarök|Ragnarök]], the apocalyptic battle of the gods of North Germanic mythology. The story of Ragnarök coincidentally ties with the career of William Adama; he is a former commander of the battlestar ''[[Valkyrie]]'', named for minor female deities and goddesses of fate who carried the most heroic fallen warriors to Valhalla to await the pre-ordained battle at the end of the world. Following the events of a [[Hero|failed secret Cylon reconnaissance mission]], Adama is given command of the to-be-decommissioned ''Galactica'', during which the Cylons attack, the Colonies fall, and Adama prepares to fight the [[Battle of Ragnar Anchorage]], the last battle within Colonial space fought by the last remaining battlestar of the fleet (a recurring theme of "last," "final," and "ending").
*To minimize the time needed to get to Ragnar, [[William Adama|Commander Adama]] orders ''[[Galactica]]'''s [[FTL]] drive systems prepared for use, which prompts a critical comment from Colonel Tigh that ''Galactica''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s FTL drive systems had not been used in over 20 years. See [[Science in the Re-imagined Series]] for more on why ''Galactica'' may not have jumped for such a long time.

*The name "Ragnar" is used allegorically by the show writers to remind the viewer of [[Wikipedia:Ragnarok|Ragnarok]], the apocalyptic battle of the gods of Norse mythology. Curiously, the story of Ragnarok parallels with the career of [[William Adama]], the former commander of battlestar ''[[Valkyrie]]''. In mythology, a ''[[Wikipedia:Valkyrie|Valkyrie]]'' was a minor female deity who chose the most heroic fallen warriors to ascend to Valhalla where they would await Ragnorok. After the [[Hero|failed secret Cylon reconnaisance mission]], Adama is transferred from ''Valkyrie'' to commander of ''Galactica'' before the Cylon attack, and later, with the fall of the Colonies, finds himself in the [[Battle of Ragnar Anchorage]], the last Colonial fight within Colonial space.
