Ovions are insectoid creatures who work the tylium mines of the planet Carillon.
Ovions are insectoid creatures that manage a mysterious gambler's paradise on the planet Carillon. They are one of the members of Cylon Alliance. Their extensive tylium mines are an extremely valuable asset.

Marvel Comics
The Ovions use Carillon's playground on the surface to attract their prey. The chancery is rigged to let the players always win, and there is grog and entertainment to keep the people occupied. Ovions occasionally prowl discreetly on the entertainment level, but generally remain out of sight. Individual humans are trapped selectively when they enter the elevator, and are taken into the hive-like structures underground instead of their desired destination. They are then placed into chambers which slowly transform them into food.

The Ovions, also referred to as the Lords of Ovion by the Cylons, are occupants of Carillon. A communal order order from birth, all Ovions work and share, believing that such a system is peaceful and ordered: there is no competition, no jealousy. Eschewing happiness as "the goal of an immature order," the Ovion is content with such a communal system, as it has been so for millennia. As such, they align with the Cylons as a member of the Alliance, unbeknownst to the Colonials.
Cassiopeia is trapped in such a manner, until she is rescued by Starbuck and Apollo. They are presumably wiped out when Carillon is destroyed by the explosion of the tylium mines (Saga of a Star World).

The Ovions set up a lure for their human food supply in the form of a resort and chancery on Carillon, attracting humans from across the star system; they and their young feed on the unsuspecting humans, as humans would feast on cows. Captain Apollo and Lieutenant Starbuck uncover this, leading to the mass exodus from and Battle of Carillon marvel.

The Ovions originate from a place other than Carillon, and thus are something of nomads.

Baltar and their queen Lotay agree for the Ovions to work the rich tylium deposits of Carillon, for Baltar did not trust his own people to safeguard the secret of Carillon's wealth from either the Cylons or the Colonials.

For the Ovions, Baltar had them build a gambler's paradise on the planet, in which the den of sin allows none of its victims to lose—except their lives as a food source for the Ovions, for they were on the verge of collapse as a species (annual2014).

Notes
Notes
* The Ovions are a typical ingredient in a majority of separate continuity works, particularly for their involvement in the general lore of the Original Series.
* Named characters include Queen Lotay and Seetol.
* In Marvel's marvel, the Ovions are shown to have pincer feet.
* Ovions are also the name of a hexapodic race mentioned in Star Trek: Voyager. Given the mention of hexapodicism, which the Ovions depicted in "Saga of a Star World" shared (having four arms and two legs), it is likely that this is Voyagers nod to Battlestar Galactica.
