Lieutenant '''Joe Palladino''', callsign "Hammerhead", was a [[Viper]] pilot on the [[Battlestar]] ''[[Galactica]]''.  He was assigned to lead a detachment of [[marine]]s to the civilian cargo ship ''[[Gideon]]''.  His mission, as ordered by [[Saul Tigh|Col. Saul Tigh]] was to retrieve desperately needed supplies from the transport, which was withholding from ''Galactica'' in protest of Tigh's declaration of Martial Law.

Due to his inexperience at riot control, he was unable to maintain control of his forces and the irate civilian crowd during the food transfer.  When an unknown person, most likely one of his own marines, fired a weapon the marines under his command began shooting randomly at the panicked crowd.  Despite repeatedly ordering his marines to cease fire four civilians were killed during the incident and he was reprimanded by Colonel Tigh for his failure. ("[[Resistance]]")
