Several cast members have commented on the production of the scenes depicting Inviere's abuse aboard Pegasus. Fulvio Cecere, who portrays Lieutenant Alastair Thorne, noted that the confrontation scene was shot considerably more graphically than what was broadcast, and that director Michael Rymer spent significant time working through the material with the actors. Cecere and co-star Grace Park spent time with Rymer discussing the characters before filming.
Aaron Douglas, who plays Galen Tyrol, addressed the decision to depict the assault as graphically as it was: "BSG is a reflection of real life and these types of events go on everyday... What we shot was so much more graphic than what was aired and I understand why they did not use it. In what aired the rape had not totally begun. It was suggestive. I thought it was a good scene and on point with the story and not added to draw in viewers."
Mary McDonnell, who plays Laura Roslin, spoke to the broader intent of the sequence: "It should be upsetting. It needs to be very, very upsetting. One should watch it and think, 'I don't want to see that!' We shouldn't be using the fragility or vulnerability of the female body as a 'technique' around which to build entertainment."
