During [[Laura Roslin]]'s removal from office and [[Saul Tigh|Colonel Tigh]]'s enactment of [[Wikipedia:martial law|martial law]], [[Colonial Marine Corps|Colonial Marines]], sent by Colonel Tigh and led by Lieutenant [[Joe Palladino|Joe "Hammerhead" Palladino]], kill four unnarmed civilians during a riot on that ship.  

The civilians onboard are protesting Roslin's removal from the presidency, martial law and the dissolving of the [[Quorum of Twelve]], by hindering an effort to resupply ''[[Galactica]]''. During the protest, where coffee and other objects are thrown at the boarding party, the Marines hear what they believe to be a gunshot. Believing that they were under attack, they fire into the crowd, until Palladino manages to weakly regain control of the situation after the damage had been inflicted ([[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]).

Reporter [[D'anna Biers]] later hypes the incident as the "Gideon Massacre" to try to turn civilian opinion against ''Galactica'' ([[Final Cut]]).
