FTL is an acronym meaning Faster Than Light. This Faster Than Light capability refers to the ability of space vessels to travel beyond the speed of light, which enables travel that would be too long to be practical in any stretch of the imagination. When a ship has a FTL capabilities it allows the vessel to travel enormous distances at much quicker and even seemingly instantaneous speeds and allowed Colonial personel and territory to expand great distances.
