Summary

Part two of a two-part season finale. The previous episode saw copies of Boomer and Six appearing to the fleet with a dubious peace proposal which had ominous strings attached. In order to derail any chance of the questionable peace accord going through, President Roslin has put the matter to a referendum vote and called on long-time rival/ally Tom Zarek for political support. This episode will no doubt feature the resolution of the issues presented in part one and may well end in yet another infamous Galactica cliff-hanger. Quantum Leap's Dean Stockwell is rumored to appear as Brother Cavill, a Humano-Cylon priest. Source: The Patriot Resource

The season finale, "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II", will be a 90 minute special according to a release from Scifi Channel (which was previously attempted for "Pegasus", but dropped). The Scifi release goes on to describe the episode:

"With the presidential campaigning in full swing, the election's outcome hinges upon a core debate -- whether or not to abandon the search for Earth when the Galactica crew discovers a habitable planet. When the election begins to swing in favor of Baltar (James Callis) -- a man whom Roslin is convinced is a Cylon collaborator -- the incumbent president must decide whether or not to take drastic measures for the greater good.

Things become even further complicated when the Cylons, led by Caprica Six (Tricia Helfer) and Sharon (Grace Park), find the planet and offer humanity a stunning proposal of peace." Gateworld

Analysis

As promised, this episode is not only a cliff-hanger, but a complete reimagining of the reimagining. Let's look at the initial premises of the show and where they stand:

- The Cylons are out to destroy mankind. Not anymore they don't. The Cylons are offer peace through occupation. Now, this sisn't exactly 'free to be you and me' love, but it's pretty clear that if the Cylons wanted to wipe out humanity, they could have- and they decide not to.

-The Cylons hate us. Boomer and Caprica Six have clearly staged a political coup within the Cylon Empire/Confederation/ Grand Wickity Whack and have changed policy. It does sem that the shift is just from hating us to pitying us, but still- a vast improvement.

-Rosilyn is President. Rosilyn is a political nobody now. Baltar tastefully redecorated Colonial One into a Bond villain's lair complete with slinky girls (obviously Six-in-My-Head wasn't around the year of settlement). Rosilyn has a lame job as a school teacher down on New Caprica, but she also has the Cylon baby.

-There's a fleet of ships. The Cylons are chasing us. We're searching for Earth. Yes, but nobody's on them. No, because the Cylons have won and we've surrendered. No, unless Adama and the other fifteen people who are maintaining the Colonial Fleet decide to strike it out.

So, what to expect:

Basiclly, what has happened is the Cylon plan has been fulfilled, but modified along the way. Before, the Cylons were crazy machines trying to be human, now they are crazy machines trying to be "the best machines they can possibly be". This is important. The Cylon occupation isn't about revenge, but education. The Cylon's think their way of life is best and they are going to show the Humans how great Cylon living is. It'll probably work too. With their endless labor and cheap medicine, the Cylon occupation is probably going to be a vast improvement on the lives of the Colonials. Truth of the matter is that as Rosilyn and Adama point out, on their own the Colonials will die on New Caprica. There aren't enough resources and as we see, people are dying left and right. I don't think we should rule out the possibility that a Boomer/Caprica Six Cylon force may actually be trying to help. I doubt their "help" however is going to go over well
