These two points seem paradoxical - what exactly was Zak doing with himself during his early 20s, if he was so tortured by his father's opinion on civillian life? --[[User:Peter Farago|Peter Farago]] 04:17, 11 April 2006 (CDT) |

Age
Okay, this has been bothering me ever since we worked out the deal with Anne Adama. Based on the age of the actors at the time of the first season (2004), we can make a general conjecture about ages:
- Kara Thrace: 24
- Zak Adama: 27-28 (at the time of his death)
- Lee Adama: 31
We know that Zak died two years prior to the miniseries, so we can tack another two years onto his age to even everything out. This agrees well with Image:Youngadamafamily.jpg which suggests that Lee and Zak are no more than a couple years apart.
However, this raises a couple questions:
- What was someone as old as Zak doing in basic flight? By the standards of the U.S. military, he'd have been much too old to be a regular student at a military academy. His age suggests that he was attending officer candidate school, implying that his military career was an afterthought.
- What drove Lee and Zak into the military at all? Clearly they were both very proud of their father, but he apparently left Caprica when they were fairly young and remarried shortly thereafter. He couldn't have been a very active part of their lives during his time on the tramp freighter, or afterwards, once he was reinstated in the military, and yet Zak apparently gave enormous weight to his opinion - "a man isn't a man until he wears the wings of a viper pilot".
