| Brought aboard ''Galactica'' by his father, chief weapons control officer, Lieutenant James Danian, Corey and his mother, Caitlan Danian, lived aboard the battlestar with Lieutenant Danian. Corey has known Commander William Adama and Colonel Saul Tigh his entire life and thus was allowed to wander ''Galactica'''s halls without a pass, as he was friendly to the marines and pilots. His presence was often followed by silent observance, most notably in CIC, where he was often at Petty Officer Anastasia Dualla's station ("Miniseries"-"Final Cut")

| Some eighty days after the attacks, fifteen-year-old Corey turned sixteen and was accepted to train in a Viper pilot, boosting numbers up. He received the callsign "Shadow" and a Mark II Viper, 4535NC, and was considered a natural after learning to fly without trouble within a week. He racked up considerable points and was on par with Lieutenant Brendan "Hotdog" Costanza and Lieutenant Louanne "Kat" Katraine, who had only been flying Vipers for three months ("Flight of the Phoenix").
