==Amazing Read==
This is quiet a post going here. It seems to still have some following so I will add my two cents. First off I would like to strongly urge anyone who can afford cable to pay for it. First it is illegal to install free cable and second any revenue lost by the cable company must be made up somewhere. Believe it or not cable companies are strictly governed by federal regulations. Not to mention the huge cost of installing and maintaining a wired network within your community. I would also like to urge anyone who is not technically inclined or is not sure of what they are doing to please not use any information on this site. Climbing poles with ladders or spikes can lead to serious injuries and death not to mention hooking up wires in boxes you are not familiar with. Now for information purposes only I will try to explain the inner workings of cable systems. By the way, all you BS cable CEO's who are posting here should please refrain from showing your dumb ass. You not only look foolish but are blatantly lying in hopes of curbing theft when instead you are losing face and causing more interest. FACT: Anything that has protection in place CAN be cracked, hacked, and stolen. Anyone who says different is a fool. The laws that are in place to prevent cable theft are weak at best. I have never heard of someone spending jail time for stealing cable. If you are a fool then you might get caught stealing cable but other than that denying everything will prevent any legal action from occurring. It is virtually impossible for cable companies to prove you were responsible for cable being hooked up illegally (do not video record yourself doing it). Ok any tools used to open boxes, and install cable can be purchased on eBay or made with some ingenuity. They are under CATV Tools, find the one you need. FYI: All CATV cables have the same signal (or frequency band) being sent through the line at all times. This includes all channels and internet. Cable companies use different methods to block portions of these frequencies from you. They are in the form of traps or digital encoders. Traps can be removed and digital decoders can be purchased on eBay that have the channels unlocked. Traps by the way are the little silver barrels 2" to 6" long and about an inch in diameter. They are usually located at the taps but can also be in boxes located outside the home or apartment complex. The cable network consists of aerial lines and underground lines. If you have poles in your yard with wires running to your roof then that is aerial. If you do not then you have underground lines. Aerial lines are the second set of lines at the pole. They have taps which consist of 4 or more ports like those on the back of your TV. This is where your cable is connected to the drop which runs to your home. If you have underground lines then you will have a pedestal located somewhere near your home. This box also has taps which function the same as aerial taps. You simply screw the end of your drop onto a port and viola you have cable. Now theoretically it is that easy but there are a few things that we need to talk about. When the cable company comes out to install cable they run a drop or cable to your house from the taps to the outside of your home if necessary. Sometimes new homes and apartments have these in place when they are constructed. They connect the drop to the wires running throughout your home via splitters usually encased in a box on your home labeled CATV. Now there are hundreds of ways that these connections occur but if you are going to illegally hook up cable then you need to be able to recognize the method used for your situation. Now most companies use slip sleeves to prevent access to tap ports or traps. Slip sleeves are the round metal or plastic barrels that have a wire coming out of them and spin indefinitely when you try to take them off or put them on. These slip sleeves can be bypassed using a sleeve tool or LRC tool. You can also crush them until they pinch the fitting but I would just buy the 10 dollar tool. You can break the ports off and crushing the sleeve will ruin it along with possibly ruining the fitting or wire. Also the best way to hook up cable and keep it hooked up is for all your connections to maintain their original appearance which means that yes you need to put the security measures back in place when you are done. Now to get all analog channels available in your area you must bypass all traps. Traps are simple devices that filter out certain frequencies that a particular set of channels travel on. There are several ways to bypass this device including just removing it but remember the more original your connection looks the less attention it will draw and the less chance you will have of getting your connection ripped. If you have a single trap (one silver barrel) then this is the best way to bypass it and still keep it on the line. First remove the trap then take a drill and drill out the center of the trap. The bit does not need to be wide but it does need to go all the way through the trap. You will want to remove the stinger or copper wire that runs through the middle of the trap before drilling. Now you will have a hollow trap that looks original from the outside. This method will require knowledge of installing a new fitting at the end of your drop. When you cut your cable for the new fitting leave the stinger or center copper wire long enough to pass all the way through the trap and protrude out of the trap about a quarter inch. When you reinstall the trap make sure you get the stinger lined up correctly or you will have to cut a new connection. Most of the time you will not have a great deal of cable to practice with so do not practice this in a pedestal or up a pole when in plain view and in danger of ruining your drop. If you do have security collars then you can get away with using shity radio shack connectors or the like but if you do not have something to hide your connection then you will need to either buy the fittings used by your local cable company (usually digicon) or if you do not have the means to ensure an original look just remove the trap but please please keep as much as possible looking original. Most companies perform random audits and any thing that looks out of place will get ripped and recorded. Two things you do not want. Audits are simply visual checks so if your connection looks good it will remain intact. There is no way for the cable company to check to see if you are stealing cable other than actually checking your particular connections at your home. If you are using splitters in the attic of your apartment then they will never find out unless you call and tell them or your neighbor has a service call which reveals a nest of splitters. Most companies use a tagging system to allow a quick visual inspection of what service should be in place. If a tech looks at your connection with no trap and sees a tag that notes otherwise you might get ripped. That is another reason why keeping your connection looking original is important. So what tag do you need? Well if you look around at other connections in your area you may be able to figure out what color you need. Some companies do not have tags at all. If you can get a tag that notes a full service connect then you can get away with just pulling off traps. Usually there are two tags, one which denotes the home and the other which tells the service. If you are just removing the trap please remove the service tag completely. That is less obvious than a basic tag with no traps. Often times the tags can be pulled off or with wire tags you can pull down and clip them so the cut will not show when you reinstall them on your line. If you have an underground drop in a pedestal it may be difficult to locate your line. Just connect the loose wires one at a time to a port and have a friend give you a signal when you receive a signal (TV). There are plenty of other ways to do this with special tools but if you have such tools then you do not need a lesson on their application. Do not remove any lines that are hooked up on the pole or in the pedestal. That will result in a service call which is not good. The easiest way to go through this process is to have the cable company install cable in your home and then cancel their service. Please check to make sure you do not already have free cable. I know that there is a price to having them hook you up but you will ensure that all outlets are working and that your drop is of a certain quality. When the cable company cuts off your service all they are doing is unscrewing the line from the port. Keep in mind that when they come out to install your cable there might be a person to come and check the work within the next few days. If you are going to alter your line please wait a few days. Also remember that if there is going to be any kind of change of service by you including disconnects please put the traps back on as to prevent attention to your line. Here are the cardinal rules about getting and keeping free cable: 1. Keep your mouth shut 2. When altering your cable, look and act the part, do not look guilty. Wear a hard hat and put some boots on. Have the proper tools. Neighbors think something is up when some kid is up a ladder with shorts and a T-shirt holding a pair of vise grips and a drill hanging on wires on the pole. Don't be stupid unless you like getting caught. Get your lazy ass out of bed and do your alterations in the early morning like 8am. 3. Always make your alterations look as stock and original as possible, if available find tags that match your service. Install fake traps, or remove them all together. 4. Don't get dead because you are stupid and did not learn enough to be comfortable doing such things. 5. Keep your mouth shut (yes, shut!) Quick question answer: The entire cable frequency is sent over your CATV line at all times (receiving it is another story) You can get free digital cable providing you have a decoder that is supported in your area. You can have free internet which is explained elsewhere on the net No you cannot just hook up a modem and have it magically work, believe it or not they did think of this when they designed the system. Cable modems work on a Mac address authorization, if you don't understand this then keep paying your bills. If you have a cable modem that is authorized it will work anywhere on the network. Every single wire has the SAME signal being sent to it providing you are in the same service area. All cable tools can be made or purchased on eBay. Yes stealing cable is illegal but nearly impossible to prove. The spinning cylinder is a safety measure that can be bypassed with a sleeve tool. If you have internet and do not have TV then there is a trap on your line. Traps filter out TV signal. The only way to tell if a trap has been removed it to go look at your port and not see a trap. There is no reverse engineered traps that work. Nobody has made a steel cylinder that makes a cable signal to my knowledge. The only things that you need to make cable work is coax wire, fittings, barrels, splitters. A sleeve tool, crimper and coax wire stripper can get you a long way in the cable world. Keep in mind that using splitters result in a loss in signal every time the line is split (crazy!). It does not matter whether a TV is hooked up to the line or not. If you shoot the cable guy you will go to jail. Do not get pissed when they rip your connection, instead learn from your errors and make it better and more stealth. If you piss off the cable guy they can make life hard for you so do not do it. Do not try to bribe your cable guy unless they seem amazingly willing to be bribed. All good things must come to an end. Females cannot drive for shit If you have any other questions ask somebody else. I am a simple pig farmer and have no clue what I am talking about or doing on this planet.

TO ALL THOSE WHO KEEP POSTING ON THIS BOARD SAYING HOW ILLEGAL IT IS TO STEAL CABLE AND ALL THE CONSEQUENCES THAT CAN OCCUR - F*** OFF AND GO CRY SOMEWHERE ELSE YOU F***ING LOSERS. CABLE COMPANIES AREN'T LOSING A SINGLE PENNY BY NON-SUBSCRIBERS HOOKING INTO CABLE LINES, NO MATTER HOW MUCH THEY WANT TO SAY THEY DO. AND THESE SMART PEOPLE WHO ARE GETTING CABLE FOR FREE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR RAISING THE COST OF CABLE TO OTHER SUBSCRIBERS. ONLY THE GREEDY CABLE COMPANIES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT, THIS IS ONE OF THEIR MANY COP-OUTS THEY USE WHEN THEY RAISE RATES. THEY ARE ONLY LOSING "POTENTIAL" REVENUE BY CABLE THEFT - AND IF YOU'RE LIKE ME I'M NOT A "POTENTIAL" DUMBASS CUSTOMER THAT IS GOING TO ALLOW MYSELF TO GET RIPPED OFF BY THE MONOPOLISTIC CABLE COMPANIES AND THEIR RIDICULOUS RISING COSTS OF OVER $60 FOR BASIC ANALOG CABLE. IF I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT STEAL CABLE I WILL GO WITH DIRECT TV, I REFUSE TO GIVE THESE CROOKS ANY MONEY. AND NO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, NOTHING WILL HAPPEN TO YOU IF THEY FIND AN ILLEGAL CONNECTION. BELIEVE ME I HAVE BEEN SHUT OFF MANY TIMES AND ALL THEY DO IS TRY TO FIND A WAY TO LOCK IT BACK DOWN. NO MATTER HOW MANY WAYS THEY DO IT I FIND A WAY TO BEAT THEIR STUPID IDIOT WAYS OF TRYING TO SHUT IT OFF. AND NO CABLE WILL NOT BE ALL DIGITAL IN 2009 LIKE SOME OTHER ASSHOLE WAS TRYING TO SAY IN THIS BOARD. THAT POSTER MUST BE IGNORANT AND STUPID ENOUGH TO THINK THAT THESE CHEAP TWISTED GREEDY CABLE COMPANIES ARE GOING TO MAKE THE PROPER INVESTMENTS AND INFRASTRUCTURE ENHANCEMENTS IN ORDER TO DO THIS. SO GO OUT AND DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET YOUR CABLE HOOKED AND NOT PAYING FOR IT. IF THEY EVER TRY TO CONFRONT YOU, WHICH THEY WON'T BECAUSE THEY KNOW THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING, OBVIOUSLY THEY CAN'T PROVE ANYTHING SO ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS DENY IT. SAY YOU HAVE NO IDEA THAT YOU HAD CABLE, OR THAT THE CABLE COMPANY MESSED IT UP. SO ONE OF YOU IDIOTS WHO THINKS THAT SOMEONE CAN GET FINED $10K OR GO TO JAIL, TRY TO TELL ME HOW YOU CAN BUST SOMEONE IN WHICH THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF WRONGDOING. THE CABLE COMPANY IS COMPLETELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN NEGLIGENCE AND STUPIDITY OF MAKING IT SO EASY TO GET CABLE HOOKED UP. BUT I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR SOME COMMENTS ON THIS FROM ONE OF YOU IDIOTS OUT THERE WHO THINK IT IS WRONG.
