Shielded from the shockwaves and a bulk of the nuclear fallout, they managed to round up hitchhikers and other survivors camping in the mountains into a sizable [[resistance (movement)|resistance force]].  From there, they sieged supply depos, hospitals (for anti-radiation meds) and destroyed Cylon convoys. The Caprica Buccaneers are a pyramid team from Caprica, captained by Samuel T. Anders.

According to the Buccaneers, they were training in the mountains at the time of the Cylon nuclear bombardment of the colony.
