Are you actually able to transcribe real-time? (That is to say, type it out as fast as the audio goes.) The few errors I catch are because I have to listen to each section two or three times, so I get the nitpicky stuff that I would have missed if I could keep up with the audio. Either way, it's amazing work. (And it appears to have inspired others to pitch in again, as well.)  --Steelviper 23:45, 14 February 2006 (EST)

:Haha, I wish... I never even learned to type 'properly'! I'm sure there are more than a few errors, every now and then I come across a word or a phrase that I can't quite make out so I just take my best guess. Thanks for the compliment anyway, although I'm sure you're just being nice. Also it's always nice to be an inspiration! --Misco 00:53, 15 February 2006 (EST)

::Well, diffs don't lie. That's some pretty minor stuff. As for "proper" typing... I think it's over-rated anyway. I'm definitely an "ends justify the means" guy when it comes to typing, but that may be due to a lack of formal training myself. I'd actually love to learn to use a Dvorak or some other "optimized" keyboard layout, but I fear I would be lost if I sat down at any other keyboard after that. Well... back to work. --Steelviper 08:56, 15 February 2006 (EST)

:::Indeed, another welcome from someone else, this time though, in the same country. And be careful, with pictures like that and a shared interest in BSG, you may get geek stalkers! Hi, have you met me yet? :P --Fordsierra4x4 15:24, 16 August 2006 (CDT)

Thanks for your support of BSG: you have no idea how hard I'm struggling to make BSG have a..."more respectable" fanbase....keep in mind that this is based on years of indignity in Star Trek fandom:  by the end of Voyager and Enterprise it was mostly "middle aged guys living in their parents basements" watching because they inserted Space Babes like Seven of Nine and T'Pol in, and the production team would just dismiss fan complaints by saying "who cares what fans think?  They're just middle aged FanBoys" etc.  ---->BSG is really breaking new ground and people that don't normally watch Scifi are watching BSG, i.e. my sister and all of her college friends (their college is near mine) I converted into avid BSG fans, and on the bboards actually a lot of women and actually "hip young people" are contributing.  Oh, I won't repeat my usual "Cally is great because she's a girl and my age and a character" (I think you've all heard it already), but stuff like that.  But it's really that I was so annoyed that fans were getting dismissed as "middle aged fanboys" that I like it when we break the stereotype of what a "fan" is; (I myself am 20 and was on my high school varsity football team, so I don't look like the sterotypical "gawky nerdy fanboy"; I'm more of a militant Che Gueverra-esque "Geek Power!" fellow :) --->Btw, it was funny:  Richard Hatch came to a convention I went to, and I think for like 20 years he's had to deal with the "middle-aged living in parent's basement" types of fans, and when I went I brought along my sister and her 2 college-aged friends, and we all dressed up in Battlestar pilot flight suits, and Hatch was just extatic :) --The Merovingian (C - E) 17:01, 16 August 2006 (CDT)

:I agree that BSG is not your typical science-fiction show, I mean for one thing there is a lot less technobabble and the whole political element isn't sci-fi at all really. I feel much happier recommending BSG to people to watch than I would other science fiction shows just because of that and I know that a big part of that is the stereotype people have and so with other shows I immediately think well they would never give 'this' or 'that' a chance - so what's the point.

:Another thing I don't understand is why this stereotype is still around today, there seem to be a lot of women who contribute on forums, and write fan-fiction about the show etc etc. So surely the reaction people have to what a science fiction fan should look/act like must be changing. And I guess it is... but extremely slowly because there were a lot of women who liked Voyager and a lot of women who liked Farscape (to name two shows I loved) but you wouldn't know it as far as the way people talk about science-fiction fandom goes. I myself, once went to a convention type thing and I have to say, I don't think that there were that many more men there than women, of course they could have just been the guy's sisters or girlfriends - but then I didn't think geeks who lived in their parent's basements had girlfriends. ;) --Misco 05:03, 17 August 2006 (CDT)

::Yeah: Farscape was great because while there was a lot of sex in it, it was A) handled maturely B) people had sex on the show because it was part of the actual plot, not because they were obviously trying to get higher ratings.  Of course I always just thought Scorpius was a cool bad guy (because he was evil, but also kind of a gray character and not one dimensional); "Entropy will claim the universe, before I bow down to a Scarran!", "Why must you make me demonstrate my superiority...over your kind as well?!?!?"...love those, try to insert them into conversation :)
::As for T'Pol on Enterprise, the sole thing I was happy about was that even the actress *playing* T'Pol complained about that.  While with Seven of Nine, Jeri Ryan defended the character, with T'Pol actress Jolene Blalock complained about how the character was getting completly subverted and turned into a blatant sex object....and as this got actually PROGRESSIVELY WORSE, she would complain even mor, to the point that by late Season 3 she was practically warring with the executive producers...though they always won out, but both fans and critics agreed with everything Blalock was saying ("you make me get naked for no reason, just for ratings", "you make my character have sex with people for no pre-established reason", "the dialogue is poor and the scripts are amateurish or recycled", etc.
::Lots of girl fans at the conventions (I didn't specify; my sister's squad of 3-4 other fans are all girls too); they're great at making fan costumes, which I have no idea how to do.  --The Merovingian (C - E) 11:21, 17 August 2006 (CDT)
