The point of this section was to explore attitudes toward race and sexuality in the colonies. Stating that some characters don't display a preference one way or another is senseless, since, as established in the paragraph above, this appears to be the default. Basically, your point about Baltar is sound, and this means he should be removed from the section entirely.
