There was this bit you 'corrected' that didn't make sense to me:

::I would say "were unable" or "weren't able" make more sense, it's hard to tell them apart and it doesn't really matter, but this is a double denial.

:That's really what I heard at the time. We just write down what we hear (grammar correction costs extra, you know...). However, on second (third? fourth?) listen, I can see how I might have heard that, but you're right.
