Lynch's career spanned many decades in radio, film and television.  From 1949 to 1954 he was the star of the [[w:Dumont Television Network|Dumont]] network television series ''The Plainclothesman'' in which the conceit of the show was that his face was never seen on camera, and he appeared from a "point of view" perspective.    This led to him playing police detectives in many other productions including a recurring role on Glen Larson's ''[[w:McCloud|McCloud]]'' as Sergeant Grover. Of note, the same name is on his uniform name tag in his ''Galactica 1980'' appearance, undoubtedly an inside-joke.
