'''Karibdis''', also known by his code-name '''Proteus''', is Lord {{TOS|Baltar}}'s pilot and top electronics expert during the [[Thousand-Yahren War]] the [[Cylons (TOS)|Cylons]].

During the [[Battle of Cimtar]], he disabled the defensive equipment on [[The Twelve Colonies of Man|Caprica]], thus allowing the Cylon holocaust to transpire with ease; he is responsible for the death of a million Capricans. Left unchecked, the Cylons wiped out everything, thus leaving Karibdis in a precarious situation.

== Becoming Pallon ==
After bribing Flight Sergeant [[Ortega]] for passage aboard ''[[Rising Star (TOS)|Rising Star]]'' during Caprica's evacuation'','' he assumes the name {{Inlineref|Pallon}}. Few know of his existence, as he manages to keep himself out of the public eye, and fewer knew of his survival as he becomes a waiter on ''Rising Star''.  Ortega makes the mistake of continually blackmailing Karibdis, and as a result Karibdis kills him&mdash;pinning the blame on {{TOS|Starbuck}}, using his [[laser pistol]] while the warrior was in the [[Triad (TOS)|Triad]] prep locker's turbowash.

{{TOS|Adama}} is unable to physically identify Karibdis&mdash;though the Commander is instrumental in pointing the way to Ortega's killer and allowing {{TOS|Apollo}} to request Baltar's services. En route back to ''{{TOS|Galactica}}'', after Baltar's transfer to the shuttle from the [[Prison Barge]], Karibdis (Pallon) reveals himself and, in stereotypical criminal style, divulges everything over an open comline that the Tribunal enters into evidence. 

During this, Baltar orders Karibdis to remove his cuffs, initially unbelieving that Karibdis wants to kill them both, making it look like Apollo and Baltar killed each other. After Apollo voices this logical assumption, it influences Baltar to make his move and disarm Karibdis {{OS|Murder on the Rising Star}}.

It can be presumed that he is spending some very valuable countless [[centar]]es with Baltar and others on the Prison Barge.

== Notes ==
*Karibdis' assistance in Baltar's initial scheme (dominion of the [[Twelve Colonies of Man|Twelve Colonies]]) does validate Baltar's need for accomplices; who evidently were bribed into assisting him, presumably with extravagant wealth, partners of their choice, and other typical [[Felgercarb (TOS)|felgercarb]].
*The name "Karibdis" is a corruption of [[Wikipedia:Charybdis|Charybdis]], the whirlpool/sea-monster that attacked such heroic Greeks as the Argonauts and Odysseus.
