John Steadman is a wealthy land owner and farmer in California, United States of America, Earth circa 1980 CE.

Steadman is the former employer of Hector Alonzo, in addition to other Hispanics. However, Steadman's racial attitudes towards Hispanics are negative, as he believes them to be nothing more than peasants. Steadman's hired hands Barrett and Maze typically handle the physical labor and harassment of those Steadman wants brought to heel, when they aren't on his farm attempting to ride his feral horse, Satan.

Given these attitudes, in addition to his avarice, Steadman makes it a point to destroy smaller farms by using his clout in the Growers' Association. Things come to a head when he dams up the only source of water in the area during a drought.

However, things turn bad for Steadman once Warriors Troy and Dillon arrive. After they begin helping Alonzo on his farm, in order to prepare an agricultural colony for Galactican race, Steadman grows suspicious about Troy and Dillon and goes to investigate. Steadman sees the Warriors plow the ground using their laser pistols, the Super Scouts seed the field using their special abilities, and the anti-gravity ship create the clouds that will produce rain.

He is summarily laughed out of the Growers' Association when he relates this tale Space Croppers.

Notes
An earlier version of this script, entitled "Harvest Home," provided additional backstory to John Steadman's rise. In that script, he inherited the swath of land from his father, Dick Steadman, who owned one half of the land in the area. The owner of the other half, Phi Schuster, became too ill to handle his half and sold off parts of it for quarters on the dollar to various persons who worked for him, which is where Ray Markham (renamed Hector Alonzo in the shooting script) was able to receive his acreage.
