An extension of their attempt at creating a human/Cylon hybrid, the Cylons deliberately allowed a single survivor―Lieutenant {{callsign|Karl Agathon}}, a Raptor pilot―to remain alive, wandering the woods and abandoned cities of Caprica with his former shipmate, Sharon Valerii.  In reality, Agathon's companion was another [[Sharon Agathon|Cylon agent]], an Eight sent to fall in love with him and conceive a child.  As Agathon and Valerii ostensibly evaded capture as they searched for a way off the planet, the two were forced into intimacy and ultimately conceived a child.  The experiment, however successful, backfired on the Cylons when Valerii―apparently truly in love―began helping Agathon in earnest to avoid capture while keeping her true nature secret {{TRS|33|Six Degrees of Separation|The Hand of God (RDM)|Colonial Day}}.
