==In the Original Series==
Cubits were normally seen in coin form. Frequently, viewers see cubits wagered in [[Pyramid (TOS)|pyramid]] games, usually while {{TOS|Starbuck}} is playing {{OS|The Man with Nine Lives}}.

==In ''[[Galactica 1980]]''==

Cubits are much the same in terms of appearance from the Original Series. However, it is revealed that they were made out of [[auric]], the Colonial term for gold {{G80|The Super Scouts, Part I}}.

==In the Re-imagined Series==

The cubit typically comes in both a coin and paper form used for at least a century {{CAP|Pilot|Apotheosis}}, and existing within a decade following the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies]] {{TRS|Miniseries|Daybreak, Part III}}. The art and layout for both coin and paper forms exhibit minimal change despite the decades.<ref>This is due to the fact that ''[[Caprica (series)|Caprica]]'' reused artwork for props depicted in the [[Re-imagined Series]].</ref> 

The paper version is shown to come in denominations of 100, 500 {{TRS|Act of Contrition}} and 1000 ([[TRS]]: [[Miniseries]], [[Colonial Day]]); there are very likely others in smaller denominations. The paper version also includes the shorthand for cubit "cb," next to the number it denotes. Coin versions of cubits also exist and bear the icon of the colony of origin on at one side with the Colonial seal on the other, and are coined in both gold- and silver-color metals {{TRS|Black Market}}.

Currency within the [[The Fleet (RDM)|refugee fleet]] led by ''Galactica'' became technically worthless as pointed out by [[Tom Zarek]]. However, President Roslin's administration strives to address this. Presidential aide [[Wallace Gray]] is instrumental in a move to return the Fleet to a currency-based economy to allow commerce in the Fleet to continue, so this form of currency is still utilized {{TRS|Colonial Day}}.

As the conditions within the Fleet deteriorated, bartering for goods and services became more commonplace, including the use of indentured servants {{TRS|Black Market|Dirty Hands}}

*The [[Wikipedia:Cubit|Cubit]] is an ancient unit of measurement used by various civilizations (varying in size between them). It is mentioned several times in the [[Wikipedia:Bible|Bible]], most prominently in the [[Wikipedia:Old Testament|Old Testament]] descriptions of [[Wikipedia:Noah's Ark|Noah's Ark]] and the [[Wikipedia:Solomon's Temple|Temple of Solomon]].  The ''natural cubit'' is based on the distance between thumb and another finger to the elbow on an average person, around {{Feet2Meters|1.5}}.

*As a system of currency, the Cubit is somewhat analogous to the [[w:Euro|Euro]], the international currency of much of the [[w:European Union|European Union]]. Cubits, like Euros, are universally accepted across all twelve Colonies and were the common currency long before the federal government was established with the signing of the Articles of Colonization (''[[Caprica (series)|Caprica]]'').
