Editing Battlestar Wiki talk:Think Tank/Leaked Policy

:I'd agree, although for this to be effective, I'd recommend we have a small part of an edit window that warns not to submit such things, a phrase with a simple link back to the policy like, "Do NOT submit photo, audio or video content from episodes before their official air time!" --[[User:Spencerian|Spencerian]] 21:48, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

:::This morning, around 2 A.M. ET, someone linked to leaked pages of the "Caprica" script (available via Rapidshare) on Battlestar Forum. I've deleted the post and notified the individual of their error via Private Message. ::I'm on the fence regarding this.  One one hand anything copyrighted, that we do not have legal permission to share, shouldn't be used on the wiki or anywhere else that we control.  But at the same time we don't have legal permission to use a lot of what we do as they're covered by copyrights, IP (intellectual property) and whatnot.  The use of the show's name, images from the show, and whatnot do not belong to us unless we're the copyright holder.  The saying in for a penny in for a pound comes to mind.  Despite that it is a good thing to protect ourselves as much as reasonably possible.

Yet, I'm a strong proponent of sharing leaked information, generally speaking, whenever possible about whatever the information pertains to.  My gaming blog runs heavily on leaked information and without that I'd be down to 25% or less of what I discuss.  People crave to know what others do not and as a major depository we should give the people what they want within reason.  As a user I'm leaning heavily towards opposing this policy and anything like it.  But as a staffer I feel I must support something (such as our existing citation and banning policies) that protect us.

This, for me, is further muddled because I have an idea for a project, so to speak, that I think would be fun for the wiki.  I'm hesitant to officially propose the project as I'm not sure of the legality involved with the actions pertaining to the project.  I realize this isn't coming to a vote, and I cannot recall if I'm even an official BSG Wiki Admin although I believe I am, but if a vote is necessary I must vote below:

-:::Well, "leaked content" can't really be confirmed by the studios or valid sources, so that's something that would run afoul of our [[BW:CJ|citation policy]]. Leaked content also includes rumors as well. We've run into this issue before when people released rumors from an "undisclosed inside source" over two years ago.... How we ran into that problem was very unfortunate for several people, but it was an issue that needed to be approached and tackled anyway. Beyond that, Battlestar Wiki doesn't really rely on "leaked content" in the way a news and rumors site does.
