| Also, while communicating one-on-one is good for certain things, there are many users in different time zones; to get everyone together in a chat medium is, for lack of a better term, a clusterfrakkin headache. Talk pages allow people to converse in other timezones and isn't an incovenience for them. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 19:13, 16 September 2006 (CDT) | | Also, while communicating one-on-one is good for certain things, there are many users in different time zones; to get everyone together in a chat medium is, for lack of a better term, a clusterfrakkin headache. | :Yeah, I' m aware of that and IRC is indeed a bad tool for policy making and any kind of important decision. But it might be a way to talk about small things here and there, like articles. If something really fundamental about an article needs to be discussed, that can go back to the talk pages.<br> Another thing that might be useful for some is just coordinating and helping each other. Like saying "Can you check out that page" or "What do you think about my latest addition" or "How do I do x?". Things like that

| :And in my experience times zones aren' t that much of a problem for power chatters. US East Coast to Europe is 5 and 6 hours. So latenight Euros can talk to early evening Americans for example. --Serenity 19:22, 16 September 2006 (CDT)

| :::My comments are the same for this as for the nforum suggested a while ago. I think its a really great idea and cool to get people talking but it should not be used to discuss issues relating to the wiki. It should be kept primerily talk about bsg the program or about off topic stuff --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 04:42, 18 September 2006 (CDT)

| I don't think an IRC channel is appropriate. There are other websites which host forums and chat rooms for discussion of the show. Any official BS Wiki IRC channel would inevitably lead to policy discussions, which as discussed above, belong here, in the Talk: namespace. --April Arcus 23:44, 30 September 2006 (CDT)

| == This Proposal is Moot ==

|
| |
| This proposal really is moot because we have an IRC Channel via the Battlestar Forum, many thanks to Shane, and it has been operational for awhile. There's been a live chat on Fridays coinciding with the airing of new episodes and they have been well attended.
| |
|
| |
| I'd say that this proposal can be removed as it is no longer germane. Not even as an archival copy. But, that's just me.
