One purpose I suggest would deal with "action alerts."  For example, the "Battlestar Pegasus" entry on Wikipedia has been proposed for deletion.  Would it be appropriate to alert readers that they can go [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Battlestar_Pegasus| here]] to register their votes?
