| I have what might be a dumb question, and I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but here it is: Does anyone think it would be a good idea to create an article for Firefly-class transports? I mean, a Firefly class ship could be seen in the skies of Caprica in the miniseries, so it might be worthy of an article. The reason I am asking is because the Star Wars Wiki has an article for Firefly class ships (see: Firefly-class mid-bulk transport). Basically, since a Firefly-class ship was shown on a single panel of a Star Wars Webstrip, it was deemed worthy of it's own article on the Star Wars Wiki, so I was thinking that since a Firefly could be seen in the Galactica miniseries, it might be worth an article here as well. Just thought I would ask about it. | :The appearance of that ship is noted in our "Easter Egg" article (though we still need to come up with a way to increase the exposure to that article). Enterprise also made an appearance in the miniseries, but those cameos were both obvious tributes, and neither of those ships was ever to be seen again. Should either of those craft make another appearance we'll know for certain that they were intended to be canon, but until that point it'd probably be best to err on the side of caution and assume that they are just one-shot gags from the VFX guys at Zoic. --Steelviper 20:44, 12 November 2006 (CST) | | :The appearance of that ship is noted in our "Easter Egg" article (though we still need to come up with a way to increase the exposure to that article). | :As Spencerian said, these were likely one-time cameos. There's very little need to add individual articles about them, when the Re-imagined Series References would more than suffice. Also, other than a brief appearance, what else of an in-universe nature would there be to say about Serenity or Enterprise? -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 09:52, 13 November 2006 (CST) | | :As Spencerian said, these were likely one-time cameos. | == Semi-automated pipe sort -> DEFAULTSORT conversion ==
| |
|
| |
| Read this. We could use this as well, as almost all of our articles still use piped sorting. The script could work either on an allpages basis (listing all pages which use piped sort), on a template basis (listing all pages that transclude Template:Cast Data, Template:Crew Data and Template:Character Data and use piped sort), or on a category basis (listing all pages in that use piped sort, requires MediaWiki 1.11alpha). I think the category approach is probably best, but it does require an upgrade to 1.11alpha (see here for how to download that). If we can't (or won't) upgrade, we can also just use the allpages thing on the main namespace only.
| |
|
| |
| Mind you: all this 'bot' will do is make a list of pages that use piped sort rather than DEFAULTSORT. Updating these pages to use DEFAULTSORT is still our job, which means we'll have to enlist some volunteers if we're gonna do this.
| |
|
| |
| Mind you 2: we can also use my script to count the pages that use piped sorting, so we can decide whether we want to do this with the numbers in mind.
| |
|
| |
| Note: if you don't understand what this is about, read the snippet below, then re-read my post.

| What are your thoughts? --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 10:49, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
| |
| :It appears someone has already written a bot to do this. Maybe we could run it some time. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 06:16, 19 June 2007 (CDT)
| |
| :To be honest, if we have to upgrade to 1.11, I would like to see it out of alpha and beta status before we roll it out here. As it stands now, the use of DEFAULTSORT vs piped sorting isn't a big hairy issue, as the categories at least have a sortkey of some type. So we can always hold off on that. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 08:27, 19 June 2007 (CDT)
| |
| ::You're right, it's not at biting issue, so we could as well wait till 1.11 is stable, the MediaWiki API supports editing and I've written a bot that does all this. Good plan for next year's Super Bowl, I guess (when no one will be visiting or editing anyway). --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 11:10, 19 June 2007 (CDT)

| == Create a page box ==
| |
|
| |
| What do people think about adding a "create a page" box on the Main Page, so that it's easier for contributors to create new pages? Basically, how the "create a page" feature would work is it would be much the same as the input box on the Think Tank page: type the name and press "create this article". Thoughts? -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 19:02, 29 June 2007 (CDT)
| |
| :Fine by me. I'll never use it, of course, but it would make life easier (and more obvious) for other contributors. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 03:12, 30 June 2007 (CDT)
| |
| : Update: This'll be implemented in a few days. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 15:18, 28 September 2007 (CDT)

| == Additional changes ==
| |
|
| |
| Since we've changed the nomenclature a bit around here, we're going to be changing the names of a few of our locales as well to mirror this.
| |
|
| |
| * The Administrators' noticeboard will be changed into the Chiefs' noticeboard.
| |
| * The Wikipedians' Quorum will be changed into the Galactipedians' Quorum.
| |
|
| |
| For backwards compatibility, we'll be keeping the original names and shortcuts as redirects.
| |
|
| |
| As for the reference desk, I'm thinking we should just merge the content into the appropriate guidelines and policies and get rid of it, since it's hardly used. Thoughts? -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 15:18, 28 September 2007 (CDT)
| |
| :Isn't that supposed to be Galactipedians' rather than Galacticapedians'? As for the plan itself, it's fine by me. I've never seen any activity at the reference desk since I came here, but it sounds like a place to ask questions. Isn't that already covered at the noticeboard and the Quorum? --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 15:32, 28 September 2007 (CDT)
| |
| :: Right. :P And the reference desk is a holdover from my experiment in trying to get some WP stuff over here. There's also those FAQ lists which I think can be merged into the project namespace as well. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 15:40, 28 September 2007 (CDT)
