Flying motorcycles help Warriors like Troy and Dillon to get around quickly, and escape quickly if necessary. The motorcycles appear normal, and can be operated as wheeled ground vehicles, but can also be used as aircraft if the situation requires. They could also be rendered invisible, so as to avoid detection when they were parked. (Galactica Discovers Earth, Part I).
At several points during the Galactica 1980 television series, Troy and Dillon were forced to engage the flying mode of the motorcycles in full view of civilian Earth people who had never seen the technology. This would lead to looks of amazement from the assorted bikers and law enforcement personnel who witnessed the bikes soaring into the skies. This was a source of comic relief. (Well, okay, an attempted source of comic relief!)
