"The Face of the Enemy" webisode series focuses on Felix Gaeta, who is accompanied by a handful of humans and two Number Eights on a Raptor, during which they mysteriously begin to die, one by one. The events of this story take place between six and nine days after "Revelations".

Summary[edit]

Episode 1[edit]

  • Release date: December 12, 2008
  • Running time: ~4:11
Tigh tells Gaeta to take a vacation.

A blood-covered Felix Gaeta is in a Raptor adrift in deep space, nine days after the events of "Revelations". Flashbacks of a list of names being written on a pad, a Number Eight cutting into her palm, a pair of needle-nose pliers, and a struggle inside the Raptor segue to three days before (six days after "Revelations").

Over his protests, an exhausted Gaeta is ordered by Colonel Saul Tigh to take a week's leave aboard the Zephyr to recover. On his way to the hangar bay, Hoshi catches up with him in the hallway, gives him morpha for his pain, then kisses him goodbye, evincing a romantic relationship. Joining Gaeta on the flight are deckhand Brooks, two Number Eights, and the Raptor shuttle flight crew, Lt. J. "Shark" Finnegan and "Easy" Esrin.

With the Raptor 15 minutes away from the Zephyr, DRADIS picks up hostile Cylon contacts and the Fleet is forced to make an emergency jump. The Raptor completes its jump, but discovers that the Fleet is nowhere to be seen.

Episode 2[edit]

  • Release date: December 15, 2008
  • Running time: ~3:42
The occupants of the stranded Raptor.

The Raptor crew is trying to communicate with any fleet ships. Brooks begins to pray to Poseidon and the pilot Eight remarks that they're "a long way from water", but Brooks points out that they're on a ship. The FTL drive does not respond and they figure out that they have jumped beyond the red line due to an accidental glitch and have no way of getting back to the fleet. The pilot Eight exclaims that she didn't recognize the star patterns. The other Eight asks Felix if he recognizes her.

Aboard the Galactica, Hoshi is clearly worried for Felix. He asks Tigh for a Raptor and a pilot to go find the missing Raptor. It has been two days since the Raptor went missing. It turns out that the incoming Cylon fleet was just a false alarm, and the fleet had jumped back to the original coordinates. Tigh considers Hoshi's request and states that he will consult with Admiral Adama on the matter.

Back aboard the Raptor, the crew is trying to figure out how long they can stay alive. They only have a 20 1/2 hour air supply due to having only a 68% of normal Oxygen supply, so everyone must limit exertion and try to sleep to prolong the supply. Esrin points out that with low oxygen levels people will become dizzy, experience memory loss, and begin to act irrationally.

Episode 3[edit]

  • Release date: December 17, 2008
  • Running time: ~2:42
Gaeta meets with an Eight on New Caprica.

The webisode begins with a repeat of Finnegan and Esrin's comments about the oxygen supply.

Brooks offers to take a look at the Raptor's CO2 scrubbers and opens a side panel. Meanwhile, Felix recognizes the Eight that spoke to him earlier. A flashback scene to 15 months earlier, on Cylon-occupied New Caprica, depicts a meeting in a tent between the two. Felix is seen looking over the list of people seen in the first webisode, and hands it back to the Eight. Felix looks concerned as the Eight leaves the tent.

Brooks finds a loose connection, but has trouble reaching it. The pilot Eight offers to take over and Brooks hands her the pliers that he was using. The pilot Eight says, "Got it," but is immediately killed by an electric shock. Esrin kicks her away and Gaeta checks her pulse. Brooks, stunned, exclaims, "I was just doing that. I was just doing that same thing," while the remaining Eight tells Gaeta to check the pliers. Felix finds that the insulating grip has been stripped off and asks, "Who did this?"

Episode 4[edit]

  • Release date: December 22, 2008
  • Running time: ~3:12
Gaeta asks what to do with the dead Eight's body.

The webisode begins with a repeat of Brooks' and Gaeta's comments about the pliers' insulation being stripped off.

Finnegan grabs the pliers and comments that they are "old as frak". The remaining Eight suggests that the dead Eight was murdered. Brooks says that he should have been the one to be killed, but Eight questions how he could have not noticed bare metal. After a brief argument, Eight suggests that the body must be jettisoned otherwise it will begin to decay and give off methane. The oxygen in the cabin can be sucked back into the tanks while the hatch is open. As everyone begins to put on pressurized flight suits, Eight whispers to Gaeta that she has an idea on how to get back to the fleet, but she will only tell him when everyone else is asleep.

Back on New Caprica, Gaeta is writing a list of people for Eight. He is worried that he hasn't seen some of them for a long time, and some may be dead. Eight reassures Gaeta that the Ones keep good records, and if any of the people on the list are in detention, she will find them and get them out.

In the fleet, Raptor 1029 takes off from the Galactica with Lt. Margaret "Racetrack" Edmondson and Lt. Louis Hoshi aboard.

Notes[edit]

  • Felix Gaeta has a metal leg replacement.
  • The two Number Eights are nicknamed "Sweet Eight" and "Pilot Eight" in the commentary by Jane Espenson. "Pilot Eight" is in a Cylon flightsuit.

Analysis[edit]

  • The rebel Cylon Basestar is still with the fleet.
  • Saul Tigh has returned to duty.
  • It does not appear to be an unusual occurrence for there to be Number Eights on-board the Galactica, or for them to be taking a Raptor ride to the Zephyr.
