Proposal for new fields to be added[edit]

  • Nationality of actor/actress (including flag UK UK)
  • Date of birth
  • Date of death (optional and mainly for TOS actors)
  • Age (automaticly worked out by a formula by DOB etc?)

--Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 05:09, 28 November 2006 (CST)

I'm game. Shane (T - C - E) 13:57, 28 November 2006 (CST)
I added the new parameters, is there a way of making it look a bit neater on the pages though? as you can see here the text is squished up against the edges rather than being 50/50 across --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 05:12, 30 November 2006 (CST)
Fixed and I have {{age}} online to work out age: {{age|1982|5|3}} Shane (T - C - E) 10:00, 30 November 2006 (CST)
Is it just me, or does no one use {{age}}? It's quite useful, and maybe it should be incorporated into this template. --Catrope 13:48, 24 February 2007 (CST)
I figured a lot of the templates would have to change. I'll post an example of what would be required to change for this to work. Shane (T - C - E) 13:58, 24 February 2007 (CST)

Code be code John Colicos:

{{Star Data
| image = John_Colicos.jpg
| born_month= 12
| born_day= 10
| born_year= 1928
| death_month= 3
| death_day= 6
| death_year= 2000
| character= [[Baltar (TOS)|Lord Baltar]]
| nationality= CA
| site=
| imdb= 0171475
}}
  • born_month, born_day, and born_year: If these fields are filled out {{Birth date and age}}. This will be overridden if all three death dates are entered and revert to just the date, and use templates to show the date.
  • death_month, death_day, and death_year: If these fields are filled out {{Death date and age}} will output actors death age. It will not update the age as the days go on.
A bitch to code, I agree, but I'm willing to try nevertheless. I will have to create a temporary template again (see also discussion below), and my gut feeling says {{ifdef}} will be useful. --Catrope 14:44, 24 February 2007 (CST)
I already got the code in my head, we just all have to discuss this first. It has to be agreed apoun because then there is a TON of pages to update. Tons. Shane (T - C - E) 14:50, 24 February 2007 (CST)

Dual nationality[edit]

Silly Dan requested that the infobox for an actor specify two nationalities. Because I couldn't edit this template (locked for obvious security reasons), I created a new template with an extra parameter for a second nationality. It's up and working, so could someone with admin access incorporate this parameter into this template? (Preferably Shane, he'll be able to see whether my template inadvertently breaks anything.) --Catrope 13:48, 24 February 2007 (CST)

Good idea, but actors are really only one primary nationality. We record where their born, not where they hold citizenship. Also, if you want to make a suggestion to a template, post it here first and we can work on it. For obvious reasons the other template you created was deleted because we can already do that without a template. I can see about adding a field that changes the nationally into an input to add more than one flag. Shane (T - C - E) 13:53, 24 February 2007 (CST)
I see. If specifying multiple nationalities is not supposed to happen in the first place, that's OK. I agree a new template wasn't necessary, but since I can't edit the existing template, I decided to copy&edit it to {{Star data multinational}} as a temporary solution, until you could merge my parameter into the primary template. --Catrope 13:59, 24 February 2007 (CST)
The problem with this also, if your born in America your American. If your born in Canada, your Canadian. You come to the US your a US Cit, but that's not your nationality. So this might be moot. Maybe not upgrade the nationality field, but create a citizenship field. Shane (T - C - E) 14:07, 24 February 2007 (CST)
That's not only a good idea, but also much cleaner and simpler to implement. It doesn't need {{ifdef}}, for one thing. On a side note, wouldn't it be useful to keep {{ifdef}} around just in case? --Catrope 14:13, 24 February 2007 (CST)
No. The avg. user, at least here, doesn't ever use templates. Shane (T - C - E) 14:16, 24 February 2007 (CST)
I know that, but for us template makers, {{ifdef}} has the potential to make life easier and templates cleaner. --Catrope 14:17, 24 February 2007 (CST)
