Going to stop with these two[edit]

Because people need to be made aware of how to do these. Shane (T - C - E) 00:36, 15 February 2007 (CST)

I like the format :) --Serenity 05:30, 15 February 2007 (CST)
Oh yeah. Tough list to do. :-) Shane (T - C - E) 08:04, 15 February 2007 (CST)

It looks messy having a little side table with Adama and Tigh in it. If youre going to do it properly in tables then include everyone. Also i think you should remove the circles so the gap is blank unless there is an X there. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 08:30, 15 February 2007 (CST)

Also why is season 2 split up? It was onl in the US that there was a 2.5, every other country in the world aired the series in full both as broadcast and on dvd. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 08:34, 15 February 2007 (CST)
1) To Long... 2) Circles Gone... 3) No more "Seen In Every Episode" table. :-) Shane (T - C - E) 08:37, 15 February 2007 (CST)

Matrix Templates[edit]

Nice work with the matrix templates, Shane, Catrope, et al. Can I ask what the distinction is between a "Major" and a "Minor" appearance? Credited in the opening vs. credited at the end? If so, since characters can alternate back and forth (Kat, for example) why not use a special icon or color code to indicate the size of the role, rather than use two rows? For example, we could use different colors for "Appears, but with body double", "Appears, but no lines", "Credited at end", "Credited at beginning" and "Special Guest". --Peter Farago 12:08, 15 February 2007 (CST)

If we really need a distinction, we could use the one from the character template: Template:Characters
Anyone who has a large regular role, but isn't in the main credits is major. Tyrol, Helo, Cally, Gaeta, etc. Though maybe we should group them into "main", "supporting" and "recurring" too. That makes a bit more sense --Serenity 12:13, 15 February 2007 (CST)
What I'm saying is that that isn't possible to do objectively. When did Racetrack and Kat go from "recurring" to "supporting"? --Peter Farago 12:15, 15 February 2007 (CST)
I'd say they are still supporting characters. I like Racetrack, but the number of scenes she carries is very low. Kat is more debatable as she had 1 1/2 episodes with a very large role. But you're right. It's hard to do in some cases --Serenity 12:20, 15 February 2007 (CST)
Is it even an important distinction? I mean... when this thing gets going full steam splitting them into only two categories is still going to leave a VERY large list on one of the categories (whichever way you split it). Fortunately, it's pretty flexible such that we can easily subdivide it as needed. So... throw out all categories and sort by some criteria (first appearance then last name then first name, just names, etc.)? Add more categories? I think it'd help me visualize it better the more it gets filled out. --Steelviper 12:21, 15 February 2007 (CST)
Nah, we might as well drop it and just have "main cast" and "supporting cast". For now we should just fill it up and worry about this later --Serenity 12:23, 15 February 2007 (CST)
I agree with Serenity. If we want to get serious about this, we should get around to getting more data in there. Once we've got that, we can spend the upcoming nine-month break debating who's major and who isn't. --Catrope 14:37, 15 February 2007 (CST)
BTW, Shane deserves credit for most of this stuff, I just copied his season 1 template and tweaked it a little to fit with Seasons 2 and 3. --Catrope 14:37, 15 February 2007 (CST)
And... Darth Tytis gets the idea credit :-0 Shane (T - C - E) 19:40, 15 February 2007 (CST)
Don't forget he compiled the list of episodes Leoben appeared in in the first place. --Catrope 06:28, 16 February 2007 (CST)

Similar article[edit]

I'll update this list a bit and use this as reference: List of Recurring Character Appearances (RDM). When we're done here, that article will be redundant. Should we delete it then? Or maybe change it into an article for rare guest characters only like Hadrian, Ishay, Seelix and the like? --Serenity 08:47, 18 February 2007 (CST)

Now.. this should be better than that one. This is much easier to read. Transfer all. Shane (T - C - E) 09:03, 18 February 2007 (CST)

Major/Minor distinction[edit]

Well, above we said that it's not really necessary, but I think it makes it easier to read. The problem is that the distinction isn't always that clear. I went large with the size of the role and its importance to the episode, so it's more or less recurring vs supporting. --Serenity 09:21, 18 February 2007 (CST)

I think the distinctions are definitely useful, and generally well-made. I wonder at Cottle being "Major." I love the guy, and he's appeared in a lot of episodes, but his appearances are scarce enough that I'd consider him minor. And personally, I think Anders could probably be considered Major for Season Three. We probably want people fluctuating like that, going between Major and Minor between seasons, as it might confuse finding them in the tables. But considering his prominence in Season Three and his almost ensured importance for the rest of the series now that he's a Cylon, it seems reasonable to give him the nod as Major, even if it means his slot in Season Two will largely be blank. Erm, Shane[edit]

Any particular reason why you removed Helo and Billy from Season 1? Btw, sorry I didn't continue this after doing seasons 1 and 2.0. If noone else does, I'll do it in the next few days. I just hope the reference I used is correct. --Serenity 17:36, 11 March 2007 (CDT)

They were there the WHOLE season. :-) Shane (T - C - E) 17:49, 11 March 2007 (CDT)
Yeah, but that's no reason to not note that somehow. --Serenity 17:55, 11 March 2007 (CDT)
Maybe a |all=Y var that just makes it fill up. Shane (T - C - E) 18:02, 11 March 2007 (CDT)
Yeah, that would be helpful, but it's also not hard to copy-paste it from somewhere else once such a case exists. I don't think there are many - aside from the main characters - who've been in all episodes --Serenity 18:09, 11 March 2007 (CDT)

Should there be a Main Character category?[edit]

Nothing in the title specifies only supporting cast, so it seems strange that the seven main characters aren't included. I realize that they appear in almost every episode, but there are occasional episodes without some of them, and I see no reason not to note those.

One issue this would raise, of course, is the distinction between Cylons. Do Boomer and Athena get separate lines? I think so. And if so, probably Gina should be added to Minor Characters. Alpha5099 14:06, 8 May 2007 (CDT)

We could and should include them. Reality is most people are too lazy to update this page. I might take a shot at it when I have time. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 15:39, 8 May 2007 (CDT)
Yes, we are lazy, but it might also clutter up the page. Yeah, there are some episodes where someone is missing, but they are in 90+ % of the episodes. Basically I'm against adding them, but I wouldn't mind if there were a consensus for adding them either. --Serenity 15:48, 8 May 2007 (CDT)
It's only 7 rows. We have tens of rows in there already. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 15:54, 8 May 2007 (CDT)
Five times 7 rows! That adds up. I see the point in not excluding them, but are in most episodes after all. --Serenity 15:56, 8 May 2007 (CDT)
But the same argument could be made for many of the "Major" characters. Helo, Chief, and Tigh have missed almost no episodes. The number they've missed is comparable to the number missed by "Main" characters. You could just as easily take them out. An episode without Apollo is just as noteworthy as an episode without Tigh. Alpha5099 00:05, 9 May 2007 (CDT)
It should be noted that Season 2.0 alone lists 23 characters. We might as well list 30 there. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 08:35, 9 May 2007 (CDT)
Not to drag and old horse, but include the top 6 main characters, Starbuck, Apollo, Husker, Roslin, Six, and Baltar, would just add a mess. Not including them was our correct approach in the end. Shane (T - C - E) 23:11, 29 December 2007 (CST)
