ITunes Statistics[edit]

Any statistics available about how many episodes are purchased from ITunes? Huh? 11:52, 14 October 2006 (CDT)

This information may be available as part of Apple's quarterly financial statement, coming next week. However, I doubt it will break out the individual purchases for Battlestar or any other product. --Spencerian 13:38, 14 October 2006 (CDT)

Rename and Expand[edit]

See ITunes Videos/New for my initial changes. I feel that we should rename the article to be simply iTunes (is it possible now to have lowercase first letters in the title, wikipedia does it) now that we are affiliated with them for the videos. I also feel that the page could be expanded to have a little more information and have a select few "download miniseries" small button type images. I also expect a "download episode" button to be placed on the episode pages but that goes beyond the scope of this article for the moment. Any furthar comments? --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 10:55, 18 January 2007 (CST)

Looks good. --BklynBruzer 11:06, 18 January 2007 (CST)
A redirect will do for it, I think, since either should best point a curious person. It does look good. You might want to also add the Original Series as well, which is now available. (No Galactica 1980, but that's probably out of mercy...) --Spencerian 11:34, 18 January 2007 (CST)
Looks good. Shane (T - C - E) 11:35, 18 January 2007 (CST)

Do they accept paypal? MatthewFenton 05:46, 19 January 2007 (CST)

You can buy gift certificates using paypal which give you X amount of songs but as far as i know you cant buy individual songs on demand with it.--Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 06:17, 19 January 2007 (CST)
Tell a lie... you can use paypal properly https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/general/UsePaypalOnITunes-outside --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 06:18, 19 January 2007 (CST)

Images[edit]

A template would be created something similar to this {{iTunes|imagetype|linkid}} so that the correct icon shows for whatever it is that you are linking to and the affiliate id is locked away in the template so people cannot mess with it. Here are my image ideas (also in use on /new/ page)

  • Used to subscribe to the entire podcast
  • Used to link to individual poscasts
  • Used to purchase an entire series (Miniseries, TOS etc)
  • Used on the episode pages in the infobox to link to individual episode purchase

--Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 06:55, 19 January 2007 (CST)

We also need "Download episode" for free content. --Peter Farago 10:44, 19 January 2007 (CST)
  • Used for free video content

Couldn't we also have the buttons match the color scheme for the wiki? -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 21:48, 23 January 2007 (CST)
The reason for the grey colours was because thats the colour scheme for iTunes. I don't see why they couldnt be made to match the them it would just be a bit hard to find a colour that would work both on bsgbook and monobook. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 03:25, 24 January 2007 (CST)

iTunes links[edit]

These links need to be verified first before being deployed. Thanks! -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 09:32, 19 January 2007 (CST)

Oh, and yes, the episode links may be somewhat out of episode order... -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 10:04, 19 January 2007 (CST)
What's the "code" pattern? Shane (T - C - E) 10:08, 19 January 2007 (CST)
Seems to be: http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/stat?id=VWbyALbmqZY&offerid=78941&type=3&subid=0&tmpid=1826&RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F%252Fphobos.apple.com%252FWebObjects%252FMZStore.woa%252Fwa%252FviewTVSeason%253Fi% -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 10:11, 19 January 2007 (CST)
Oh, is that all? Wow. Would that be a field we'd need to manually update in the episode data box? --Steelviper 11:14, 19 January 2007 (CST)
Actually that's just the first bit. There's more after it, but it's unique. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 12:23, 19 January 2007 (CST)

UK downloads?[edit]

Anyone have any idea when the episodes will be available on the UK iTunes? -Madbrood 11:23, 19 January 2007 (CST)

No idea. Apple havn't made any announcements about showing TV shows on the UK iTunes Store. They seem to be testing the waters with the Pixar short videos but there are no plans as yet to roll out TV shows properly like they do in the US. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 11:43, 19 January 2007 (CST)
For frak's sake :( This upsets my calm. -Madbrood 11:47, 19 January 2007 (CST)
It's also likely that episodes not yet aired in UK can't appear in iTunes first, so lots of licensing stuff. Sucks to be you, but then you live where a lot of sexy, smart women talk in naughty accents. Know any? "Rose Tyler" from Doctor Who (which YOU get to watch before us) would be nice. ;) --Spencerian 12:03, 19 January 2007 (CST)
You cant get any TV shows though the UK store, Spence. As for Rose Tyler... keep watching the rest of Doctor Who season 2. Big changes ;) --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 12:05, 19 January 2007 (CST)
Season (or Series) 2 was released just this Tuesday. Although I downloaded it when it first aired from other sources... ahem. :-) -- 12:16, 19 January 2007 (CST) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Joe Beaudoin Jr. (talk • contribs).
Naughty naughty :-P! -- So does that mean I can't buy my BSG fixes from iTunes? -- I'd happily pay 2$ :-) MatthewFenton 12:24, 19 January 2007 (CST)
Alas not. You'll either have to wait for Season 3 on DVD or find someone to record it from Sky and let you borrow it --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 12:26, 19 January 2007 (CST)
I'd pay too, but they just don't want our dirty European money. And then they complain if people use other sources... --Serenity 12:29, 19 January 2007 (CST)
Is it possible/legal to create a dollar based account from the UK and then purchase? OTW 08:37, 28 January 2007 (CST)
You need a credit card with a US billing adress AFAIK --Serenity 08:43, 28 January 2007 (CST)
You would also need to run iTunes via a proxy because it automaticly detects what country you are in. Its just not worth the hassle. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 12:12, 28 January 2007 (CST)
I should note that this article speaks of the US iTunes Store only...if it hasn't been done. --Spencerian 12:36, 28 January 2007 (CST)

NBC / Apple deal canceled[edit]

Bad news

They have disagreements on the pricing. Basically NBC wants either more money or more control, but Apple sets the prices. And NBC is worried about piracy (yeah, like this move will decrease piracy). I don't know if that affects the older stuff available, but unless they get their act together, Season 4 won't be on iTunes. --Serenity 12:00, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

I dont think the story is over yet. Aparently NBC say their shows will still be on iTunes. We have to wait and see really whats going to happen. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 05:12, 5 September 2007 (CDT)
