A Marine?

After watching Pegasus for the third time, something jumped out at me. I reviewed the scenes several times, and maybe it was a difference in lighting. Or, maybe, this might be one of those times where a question can/should be posted to Mr. Moore or Mr. Eick regarding clarification (minor importance of course)... but, could Lt. Alistair Thorne possibly be a Marine officer?

His query of "Do you want my guards to come in with you?", his uniform arrangement, and his general demeanor hint that this cat isn't typical "fleet". My estimation is that he might be a Marine officer, and in fact, the one with the most amount of command seniority on Pegasus. Does this sound feasible? -- Hawke 21:16, 28 March 2006 (CST)

I don't follow you Hawke: of course he's Fleet. I don't understand you. I mean, Marines have an entirely different set of uniforms and stuff. As for "general demeanor" I don't see how that makes him a Marine anymore than Col. Tigh, and his uniform arrangement is the same as all the others. --The Merovingian (C - E) 21:59, 28 March 2006 (CST)
I was wondering the same, having just watched Razor. It wasn't so much his uniform that made me wonder it (nb. Merovingian: its only NCO Marines we've seen; and we know that Fleet NCOs have different uniforms to Fleet Officers, so its not a stretch), but more the question of why Cain would have assigned someone of such a low rank as Lieutenant to perform what is presumably thought of as a very important task. One would assume that he either has a reputation for brutality / sourcing information as an "extra vocational skill", or he is in some sort of appropriate role. Marines would seem appropriate.
Another thought I had was that he's quite, well, old to be a Lieutenant, really. Either he isn't very good at his job, and didn't earn the promotions - unlikely, given the respect he earned from the crew, and the responsibility Cain places in him - or he was "Mustanged" from Enlisted service. --Captain Untouchable 02:00, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
