Philomon was a technician working at Graystone Industries during the development of the U-87 Cyber Combat Unit on Caprica in the years leading up to the Cylon War.

Born in Qualai, Philomon attended Qualai University where he studied electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, applied mathematics, computer sciences and applied physics. Earning several degrees and a doctorate, Philomon earned a position at Graystone Industries as its chief lab technician by the age of twenty-seven (CAP: "Know Thy Enemy").

Unaware of the presence of the Zoe Graystone avatar within the prototype U-87, Philomon intuitively referred to the robot in the feminine, treating it with a respect and reverence not shared by his coworker, Drew Tanner. Having worked on the U-87 during its initial design and construction phases, Philomon was charged with the maintenance and upkeep of the prototype, while attempting to solve technical problems with the (stolen) MCP (CAP: "Rebirth, "Gravedancing").

Personally, Philomon struggled at finding a romantic connection, even finding it difficult to meet women in the virtual world. Philomon's sexual frustrations manifested in his interactions with the U-87, often speaking to it as though it were a romantic interest, even dancing with the robot during a motion analysis test of its limbs. Developing an attraction to Philomon over the course of the interactions, Zoe Graystone as the U-87 initiated contact with him through the virutal dating site, V-Match. Taking on the guide of "Rachel", Zoe made a date with Philomon, meeting him in the V-Club (CAP: "Know Thy Enemy).

Though Philomon was at first shocked by Rachel's close resemblance to Zoe Graystone, he quickly reciprocated the attraction, taking her on several virtual dates - including a simulated Viper flight. Though Zoe was using her interaction with Philomon as an attempt to escape Caprica to Gemenon, her persona as Rachel inspired Philomon to solve a major problem in replicating the MCP chip and mass producing Cylons. With new insight, Philomon brought his theory to Daniel Graystone, who ordered him to delete the MCP. Neither men knew, however, that doing so would delete Zoe in the process (CAP: "The Imperfections of Memory", "Ghosts in the Machine", "End of Line").

Aware of her father's plan to delete the MCP, Zoe was forced to escalate her plan, directing her best friend Lacy Rand to meet Philomon in the real world, claiming to be Rachel. She then instructed Lacy to stun Philomon and steal the U-87 from Graystone Indsutries. The plan, however, was interrupted and Zoe was forced to reveal herself as both Rachel and Zoe Graystone in the form of the U-87. Pleading with Philomon to help her escape, Philomon agreed to assist her, but then triggered a security alarm. Her very existence at stake, Zoe attacked Philomon, tossing him into a support beam and killing him instantly (CAP: "End of Line").

• Philomon has occasionally been referred to as "Philo" (even listed in the credits as such). Presumably, Philo is the short form of the name Philomon.
• The name Philomon may be a reference to Philemon, a Jungian spirit guide that takes the form of a winged man.
• The name Philomon may also be a reference to "Philemon" in the Bible's New Testament. Philemon was a Christian who owned a slave, Onesimus; Onesimus ran away, became a Christian himself, and was returned to Philemon by the Christian Apostle Paul along with a letter (contained in the Bible as the short book of "Philemon"). In the letter, Paul pleads for Onesimus, asking Philemon to receive him not as a runaway slave but as a new brother in their common faith.
