Baltifer's pursuit of the renegade, incongruous Galactica leads them to the system containing Cache, the homebase of the Colonial Resistance in an alternate reality (vol2).
The creation of an alternate reality begins during an ambush of Galactica and the Fleet in a nebula humanity's survivors use to hide themselves.

Upon arriving in Cache's system, Starbuck activates the homing beacon on his Temporal Viper to home in on Apollo and the Q-Cache. With this direct link established, Baltifer's baseship seizes the inopportune moment to jump in using its newly outfitted temporal warp drive.

While Galactica is able to use its sensor shield to prevent its detection, the Resistance base has the misfortune of an active beacon that allows Baltifer to identify the location of the base despite the nearby supergiant's sensor interference. From that point, Baltifer deploys a second temporal weapon, the chronal cannon, using it to convert the planetoid's tectonic plates to a historic, seismically unstable configuration.
Facing an overwhelming force of Cylons, whose approach has been hidden by the very nebula the Colonials use to hide within, Commander Adama orders Galactica to bear the brunt of the onslaught while the civilian ships escape further into the safety of the nebula.

Adama and Apollo surrender themselves to Baltifer, conveying themselves to his baseship in Apollo's Temporal Viper, in return for Baltifer's word that no further temporal weapons are to be used against Cache. On a technicality, Baltifer reneges on the deal, using standard weapons aboard Raiders instead (vol2).
Galactica develops major damage, forcing Adama to authorize Zee's deployment of the temporal warper weapons outfitted on two modified Vipers. Warriors Apollo and Starbuck are pulled from the flight line and assigned to test pilot the craft, with Zee giving them specific instructions that they each only have 10 shots before they need to recharge via a temporal battery.

This second wave of attacks is staved by Apollo's willingness to lead Baltifer to his home reality, and Zee uses the Viper's data to recreate the temporal storm through the firing of the re-attuned chronal cannons. As Apollo flies into the eye of the storm, Galactica launches its attack against the basestar with both its standard arsenal and the signal disruptor. This allows Adama to seize command by killing Baltifer, and forcing Zee to release the human prisoners aboard, effectively retaking the baseship and using the basestar's batteries to wipe up the remaining Raiders.
Understanding this, Apollo and Starbuck launch and test the weapon on two Raiders, finding the results to be effective. Before they are able to deploy it on the attacking basestar, Cylon suicide attacks cause the temporal battery to overload and creates a temporal storm that only Apollo and Starbuck are able to weather (vol2). In effect, this event spawns an alternate reality where Galactica was never built (vol2 & ).

The creation of an alternate reality begins during an ambush of Galactica and the Fleet in a nebula humanity's survivors use to hide themselves.

Original Outcome

Facing an overwhelming force of Cylons, whose approach has been hidden by the very nebula the Colonials use to hide within, Commander Adama orders Galactica to bear the brunt of the onslaught while the civilian ships escape further into the safety of the nebula.

Understanding this, Apollo and Starbuck launch and test the weapon on two Raiders, finding the results to be effective. Before they are able to deploy it on the attacking basestar, Cylon suicide attacks cause the temporal battery to overload and creates a temporal storm that only Apollo and Starbuck are able to weather (Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 2 #1). In effect, this event spawns an alternate reality where Galactica was never built (Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 2 #2 & #3).

Restoration Outcome

Following the Battle of Cache, Apollo and Starbuck riding tandem in the remaining Temporal Viper are swept away into a temporal storm, along with the forces of the Colonial Resistance of an alternate reality.

With two capitol ships, Baltifer's former basestar under an alternate Adama's command and an incongruous copy of Galactica herself under the command of an alternate Starbuck, and surviving Vipers from Cache's base, they are deposited in the primary reality.

Vulnerable due to the overload of Zee's temporal battery, Galactica requires an hour to restore the ship's systems while Adama reconciles the loss of Apollo and Starbuck's temporal weapon Vipers. Facing certain destruction, Galactica finds itself saved by the forces of the alternate reality, dispatching the Cylon attackers. This permits the timelines diverge, the alternate reality vessels returning from whence they came, and the reunion of Apollo and Starbuck with the rag-tag Fleet (Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 2 #5).
