Admiral Jubal Sarkis oversaw and commanded Galactica during its launch into the First Cylon War, and is considered missing-in-action two weeks after Galactica's disappearance.

Sarkis' second-in-command, Praetor Samanta Agathon, leads a Raptor mission to board Avalon, not only rescuing Sarkis but also planting explosives on critical areas aboard the Cylon base station during the Battle of Marathon (Battlestar Galactica Deadlock).

• Sarkis is only mentioned during the events of Battlestar Galactica Deadlock, but is introduced as a more active participant later in the series with Battlestar Galactica Deadlock: Sin and Sacrifice.
