Jasper is an "old codger in his sixties" whose profession is that of an intergalactic prospector.

With his ship, the Golden Queen, he and his pet simian, Nugget, discover the richest ore planetoid in the star system called Opelon. However, after discovering this, the Cylons lead by Baltar seize the asteroid, forcing Jasper to flee.

After being rescued by Apollo, Starbuck and Athena, Jasper befriends Boxey, regaling him in tales of having seen the fabled colony of the Thirteenth Tribe, Earth (I Have Seen Earth).
