Jack Fisk, serial number 245A-34DC, is the executive officer of the battlestar Pegasus when he and Admiral Helena Cain discover Galactica.

Fisk is a typical orders-only XO who generally keeps to the status quo established by his commanding officer. Like his counterpart on Galactica, Saul Tigh, Fisk is fond of drinking, although he appears far less likely to drink on duty than Tigh has in the past. He has a jovial personality, often cracking jokes to ease tension.

Serving in an unspecified role in CIC, Fisk rises to the position of XO, shortly after the Cylon attack on the Twelve Colonies. When Colonel Belzen refuses Cain's reckless order to launch all Vipers against overwhelming odds during an attack on a Cylon com relay, Cain shoots him in front of the crew. She then turns to Fisk to carry out the order, who does so with little hesitation. Later, he and Kendra Shaw lead a Marine strike team onto the civilian ship Scylla, to carry out Cain's order to strip the vessel of suitable resources and personnel. When the civilians refuse to cooperate and become unruly, Cain tells him to have the families of any protester shot. While Fisk still tries to threaten the civilians, Shaw goes ahead and shoots a woman, which leads to death of nine more people. This squashes the resistance and the ship is stripped and left to be destroyed at the hands of the Cylons. He later relates these incidents to Colonel Tigh, but claims to be joking when Tigh reacts shocked ("Razor", "Pegasus").

After Commander Adama and Admiral Cain come to a near-shootout between their battlestars over Cain's quick conviction of Helo and Galen Tyrol, Admiral Cain orders Fisk to take a contingent of Pegasus Marines to guard Galactica's CIC, but with orders to "terminate Adama's command" after the battle is over, once she calls him and says "Execute case orange" (Resurrection Ship, Part I).

Colonel Fisk breaks up a violent beating of Helo and Tyrol in the brig, conducted by Pegasus Specialists Vireem and Gage. He dresses down the men, warning them that striking an officer on Pegasus has severe penalties, and sends them on his way. When thanked by Helo and Tyrol, Fisk nastily dismisses their thanks, adding that he owed Lieutenant Thorne his life, as did others on Pegasus; he broke up the beating more for the sake of the uniform than anything else. When Helo explains that Thorne was attempting to rape Sharon Valerii, Fisk echoes the same sentiment held by most in the Colonial fleet: "You can't rape a machine, Lieutenant."

However, Cain does not give the kill order to Fisk for Commander Adama at the expected time, which leaves Fisk visibly relieved. Colonel Fisk later assumes command of Pegasus when Admiral Cain is killed by an escaped Cylon agent, Gina (Resurrection Ship, Part II). Appropriately, Fisk is promoted to the rank of commander.

Commander Fisk is involved in the Fleet's black market, using his resources to allow shuttling of resources through Pegasus. Fisk supplies Gaius Baltar with fresh "Caprican Imperial" cigars. Fisk apparently becomes greedy in the eyes of the black market's boss, Phelan, who has Fisk murdered in his quarters (Black Market). Fisk is succeeded by former engineer Barry Garner as commander of Pegasus (The Captain's Hand).

Notes[edit]

  • According to the recon photograph shown in "Pegasus", Fisk's serial number is 245A-34DC; a serial number that does not conform to serial numbers issued to Kara Thrace, Sharon Valerii, or Karl Agathon.
  • A deleted scene from "Black Market" shows Captain Renner as Pegasus's new XO. However, it isn't clear whether he assumes his position as XO after Fisk assumes the command of Pegasus or not. Also, he doesn't appear in the aired episode and is never mentioned again in the series. This makes his canonical status questionable.
