Definitely a bug

So this is a file that has everything on one layer, nothing grouped. Those are the two things that apparently screw up file conversions. It still doesn't render correctly. However, as before if you click on the direct link below the image, you'll see it came through correctly. The internal SVG renderer is what's choking. And it appears to not be correctly dealing with a transparent file, either, since this one has no background behind it. Oops. Looks like PNG format it will be. Definitely file a bug report with MediaWiki. They should see this. --Scotchfairy 10:28, 4 August 2006 (CDT)

I'm not an expert of graphic formatting on MediaWiki, but I do know that we prefer JPGs or PNG image uploads here as policy. Might still be a MW bug, yes. --Spencerian 12:40, 4 August 2006 (CDT)
I was asked to upload SVG format because it scales prettier, or it's supposed to. We now know that's not true. --Scotchfairy 21:36, 4 August 2006 (CDT)
Should have mentioned this earlier--according to the folks over at Wikipedia, it's a known bug (notoriously well-known), it's just that some of the folks at WikiCommons are still holding forth for SVG as an ideological point. I now know why everything I've done for Wikipedia was PNG or JPG. But it's definitely a combination of bugs: MediaWiki's internal rendering engine is broken, plus Adobe's browser plugin will not always correctly render (or even read) files produced by other Adobe programs (much less third-party software like inkblot). Avoid the format like the plague.--Scotchfairy 04:55, 10 August 2006 (CDT)

SVG files have been deleted until the bug can be fixed. no point having them here when the PNG files are working just fine. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 04:47, 10 August 2006 (CDT)
