==Summary==
:''The ''{{alt|Galactica|TOS}}''{{'|s}} search for sanctuary takes them beyond the limits of known reality and into a cosmic mystery where the hunters become the hunted, ruin and despair dot the skies, and {{alt|Adama|TOS}} goes where friend and family can't follow. [[Cullen Bunn]] (''Sinestro Corps, The Sixth Gun, Deadpool'' & ''The Mercs for Money'') and [[Alex Sanchez]] (''Mad Max: Ride, 30 Days Of Night: Spreading the Disease, Katana)'' invite you on a journey unlike any in the annals of ''[[TOS|Battlestar Galactica]]''!''<ref>{{cite_web|url=https://www.dynamite.com/htmlfiles/viewProduct.html?PRO=C72513025064301011|title=Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 3 #1|date=|accessdate=24 March 2020|last=|first=|format=|language=}}</ref>

:''At last! The epic story you've been dying to see is here, a galaxy and timeline-spanning saga bringing the two very different (and yet so very much alike) crews of the Battlestar Galacticas series together. But don't expect this historic meeting of heroes to be friendly: they have no idea why they have been brought together, or what the result of this unprecedented meeting is. And it starts here as the legendary Commander Cain and the crew of the Pegasus are revealed to be alive, and have encountered an individual they never thought they would meet: the last Cylon. All this has happened before, but there will NEVER be anything like it again!''<ref>{{cite_web|url=https://www.dynamite.com/htmlfiles/viewProduct.html?PRO=C72513026277601011|title=Battlestar Galactica vs. Battlestar Galactica #1|date=|accessdate=10 October 2019|last=|first=|format=|language=}}</ref>

==Plot==
==Plot==

=== Chapter 1 ===
* A [[black hole]] materializes out of nowhere, trapping ''{{alt|Galactica|TOS}}'' and its {{alt|The Fleet|TOS}}. Unable to escape, Adama orders the Fleet to fly directly into the singularity.
* In transit, a tanker explodes, knocking Adama unconscious and causing damage to ''Galactica''{{'|s}} control center.
* Colonel {{alt|Tigh|TOS}} communicates to the Fleet following its transit through the black hole, reassuring its members that despite the damages and casualties that they will get through their current predicament.
* {{alt|Apollo|TOS}} visits the [[life center]] where Doctor {{alt|Salik}} and {{alt|Cassiopeia}} tend to Adama. Salik informs Apollo that Adama has suffered a severe concussion, which has been effectively treated; Salik remains puzzled as to why Adama remains comatose for over 20 [[centar]]s, noting that Adama's brain activity is well into the conscious range.

* ''{{alt|Pegasus|TOS}}'' jumps away from the two {{alt|Cylons|TOS|Cylon}} {{alt|basestar|TOS}}s that they attacked at {{alt|Gamoray}}.
=== Adama ===
* [[Tyr]] reports that the majority of damage occurred on ''Pegasus''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> portside, and that the engines barely managed the lightspeed jump. With low fuel, they're able to only sustain forward motion until they can replenish. Furthermore, the hull is damaged, but can be repaired given time.
* {{alt|Cain|TOS}} replies that, with their engines dead and ''{{alt|Galactica|TOS}}'' also believing them to be dead, they have nothing but time.
* Two [[sectar]]es later, Cain records a letter to {{alt|Sheba}}. He notes that he considers giving up command, so that he may relieve himself of the burden and rest while thinking about his daughter's fate. He further notes that repairs to the hull are as complete as they can make them.
* His executive officer, [[Iollas]], enters his quarters without knocking. Cain chides him for this, and they discuss whether or not {{alt|Earth|TOS}} exists; Cain believes it doesn't, and that it is a "fairy tale" that {{alt|Adama|TOS}} and his flock of survivors tell themselves in order to get through their exodus from their destroyed Colonies.
* Cain receives a call from the bridge, asking for his presence.
* Tyr reports that they're receiving a distress beacon from a dead planet, which activated shortly after they entered the sector. Before they can discuss further, they receive a direct hail from a bi-pedaled creature. She asks if they are "hoomans," to which Cain replies in the affirmative. She requests a face-to-face meeting on the planet surface.
* Iollas offers to go to the surface in Cain's stead, but Cain dismisses the offer.

==Notes==
* In a dream state, Adama finds himself in his quarters, and is summoned by a voice noting that his "presence is required."
* Adama then finds himself on the planet that {{alt|Baltar|TOS}} was left upon, where "Baltar" explains that "we are, all of us, being summoned." As Adama justifies his decision to maroon Baltar in a humane manner despite Baltar's very betrayal of the human race, "Baltar" replies that he "still found hell" in Adama's compassionate act.
* Adama finds himself amongst {{alt|Cylons|TOS}} in a {{alt|basestar|TOS}} throne room, with "Baltar" berating him for bringing a "human evil" into their midst.
* Adama leaves and finds himself on ''Galactica''{{'|s}} [[Core Command]], reliving the [[Battle of Cimtar|opening attack at Cimtar]] and asks a befuddled Tigh if they can stop it from happening again.

=== Timeline ===
=== Patrol ===

* While the opening of the comic immediately continues following the events of the [[Battle of Gamoray]] in the [[Original Series]]' "[[The Living Legend, Part II]]," the "two [[sectar]]es" jump that follows places the events of the comic following "[[War of the Gods, Part II]]," although that particular fact is not made apparent until later in this series.
* Meanwhile, Apollo leads {{alt|Starbuck|TOS}}, {{alt|Boomer|TOS}} and {{alt|Sheba}} on a reconnaissance of the new realm they have been deposited into. After consoling a worried Apollo about his father, Sheba detects [[Iblis' planet|a planet]], thickly-ringed with debris of derelicts. Boomer compares the planet to another one in the [[Hovian]] sector, itself featuring a unique magnetic field attracting derelict vessels in the same way.
* For the [[Re-imagined Series]], this issue takes place following [[Gaius Baltar]]'s return in "[[Rapture]]" and before "[[The Son Also Rises]]."
* The Viper patrol makes planet fall, and the [[Warrior]]s encounter a large group of marooned survivors who desire to celebrate the blessings "to those who fell from the heavens and lived."
* Sheba discovers a large impact crater nearby; Starbuck elects to proceed down to its center, wanting to determine what kind of ship had made it. Apollo elects to ask their welcoming committee for information before climbing down a bottomless pit.

=== Incongruences ===
=== Lucifer's Pursuit ===

* As is the case throughout the ''Battlestar Galactica vs. Battlestar Galactica'' series, the artistic depictions of the ships (and even persons) between the two different universes are either interchanged, or swapped entirely.
* At the exit to the singularity, {{alt|Lucifer}}'s lone {{alt|basestar|TOS}} enters the realm, discovering intense interference and signs of destroyed Colonial vessels from the Fleet.
** In the case of the basestar on the first story page, the [[Re-imagined Series]] {{RDM|basestar}} is depicted, but it should have been the [[Original Series]] version given that it depicts the [[Battle of Gamoray]] where ''{{TOS|Pegasus}}'' engages two basestars in close quarters combat.
* Lucifer orders squadrons to scout ahead, with plans to achieve what the Cylon Empire has failed to do thus far: destroy the remaining humans.
* With regard to characters, ''Pegasus'' executive officer [[Tolan]] that had been featured in "[[The Living Legend]]" is unmentioned—and quite possibly either forgotten about or ignored by the author for reasons unknown—and an older character named [[Iollas]] assumes this role instead. Of note, Iollas himself is neither seen nor mentioned in future issues of {{comics|vs}}.
* In this endeavor, they encounter an attacking force... that force is [[Meclon|also Cylon]].

=== Nods ===
==Notes==

* {{alt|Cain|TOS}}'s comment of "Looks like I picked the wrong day to give up command" is a likely nod to [[Lloyd Bridges]]' character of "Steve McCroskey" in ''[[w:Airplane!|Airplane!]]'' and [[w:Airplane II: The Sequel|its sequel]]. This is due to McCroskey being known for his "looks like I picked the wrong day to give up [on something]" statements during stressful situations the something being either "smoking," "sniffing glue," et cetera.

<!--=== Incongruences === -->
! ''1880'' Character !! ''TOS'' Counterpart !! Notes
|-
| [[Archduke]] [[Adama (1880)|Adama]] || Commander [[Adama (TOS)|Adama]] || The ''1880'' counterpart is militaristic and concerned about revenge, and does not share the patriarchal approach portrayed aptly by [[Lorne Greene]]. The ''1880'' counterpart easily writes off his son, forbids Athena from pursuing the matter, and exemplifies many of Cain's qualities from the [[Original Series]] itself.
|-
| [[Crown Prince]] [[Apollo (1880)|Apollo]] || Captain [[Apollo (TOS)|Apollo]] || The ''1880'' counterpart is acts as if he is immortal and has a vengeful side. Aside from those qualities, the Crown Prince shares many of the traits of his canonical counterpart, including a sense of idealism.
|-
| [[Lady]] [[Athena (1880)|Athena]] || Lieutenant [[Athena (TOS)|Athena]] || The ''1880'' counterpart shares many of the technical know-how of her canonical counterpart, but beyond that the ''1880'' counterpart's development diverges (and, in notable ways, surpasses) from the canonical counterpart where she becomes important into the ongoing story.
|-
| Fleet Admiral [[Tigh (1880)|Tigh]] || Colonel [[Tigh (TOS)|Tigh]] || The ''1880'' counterpart shares many of the qualities of his original counterpart. Very few differences exist.
|-
| Lieutenant [[Starbuck (1880)|Starbuck]] || Lieutenant [[Starbuck (TOS)|Starbuck]] || The ''1880'' counterpart shares many of the qualities of his original counterpart. Very few differences exist.
|-
| Lieutenant [[Boomer (1880)|Boomer]] || Lieutenant [[Boomer (TOS)|Boomer]] || The ''1880'' counterpart is forced into exile due to his life being saved through the use of Baltar's prosthetics. Aside from that, very little differs from the canonical version.
|-
| Lieutenant [[Jolly (1880)|Jolly]] || Flight Sergeant [[Jolly (TOS)|Jolly]] || The ''1880'' counterpart is forced into exile due to his life being saved through the use of Baltar's prosthetics. Aside from that, very little differs from the canonical version.
|-
| [[Zachary]] || Ensign [[Zac]] || The ''1880'' counterpart appears to have no familial relation to Adama, Apollo or Athena.
|-
| Lord [[Cain (1880)|Cain]] || Commander [[Cain (TOS)|Cain]] || The ''1880'' counterpart is never fully developed, and so much of his character is inferred by those who react to him. In this version, he does not have Adama's respect, as Adama disapproves of the relationship Cain has with Athena.
|-
| Queen [[Sheba (1880)|Sheba]] || Lieutenant [[Sheba (TOS)|Sheba]] || The ''1880'' counterpart appears to be "in name only" as she has no familial relation to Cain—particularly as she also has a sister, Cassiopeia. Many of her issues with Cassiopeia are similar to the rivalry (wherein Starbuck is concerned) between [[Cassiopeia (TOS)|Cassiopeia]] and [[Athena (TOS)|Athena]].
|-
| Queen [[Cassiopeia (1880)|Cassiopeia]] || [[Cassiopeia]] || The ''1880'' counterpart appears to be "in name only" as she has a sister, Sheba. Many of her issues with Sheba are similar to the rivalry (wherein Starbuck is concerned) between [[Cassiopeia (TOS)|Cassiopeia]] and [[Athena (TOS)|Athena]].
|-
| [[Boxey (1880)|Boxey]] || [[Boxey (TOS)|Boxey]] || The ''1880'' counterpart is a manservant, or page, of Lady Athena. He shares very little childish tendencies and is exceedingly proper.
|-
| [[Muffit (1880)|Muffit]] || [[Muffit]] || The ''1880'' counterpart is a humanoid creature with a predilection for instability. Aside from the name, Muffit isn't a lovable robot daggit.
|-
| Professor [[Baltar (1880)|Baltar]] || [[Baltar (TOS)|Baltar]] / [[Imperious Leader]] || The ''1880'' counterpart is the master of the Cylonics, and betrays his race due to his thirst for power. Baltar also creates his own leadership position using the bombastic title of "Imperious Leader."
|-
| Count [[Iblis (1880)|Iblis]] || [[Iblis]] || The ''1880'' counterpart is a computer scientist and inventor, and has a hand in creating the Cylonics and the [[babbage]] computer, Lu-c-fer. Iblis is merely human (as opposed to his counterpart), but also has his own thirst for power and attempts to seize it by transferring his consciousness into Lu-c-fer.
|-
| [[Lu-c-fer]] || [[Lucifer]] || The ''1880'' counterpart is the [[babbage]] computer server and coordinator of the Cylonics, and is under Baltar's control.
|}

=== Non-Character Counterparts ===
=== Nods ===

{| class="wikitable sortable"
* The planet happened across by the Colonials is a nod to the [[red planet]] from "[[War of the Gods]]."
|-
* This issue launches the "action figure" variant covers by [[Michael Adams]] that would be offered throughout this series, as well as {{comics|vs}}, which visually harken back to the 1978-79 C.E. [[Mattel]] action figure line.
! ''1880'' Nod !! ''TOS'' Counterpart !! Notes
* "In the beginning" is a reference to the creation myth depicted in the [[w:Book of Genesis|Book of Genesis]].
|-

| [[Carillion]] || [[Carillon]] || In the [[Original Series]], Carillon (one "i") is a world rich in tylium and apparently the home of the [[Ovions]] (and a fancy [[chancery]] and resort that they used as a honey pot to lure in unsuspecting future food animals, i.e. humans). In ''1880'' Carillion (two "i"s) is the homeworld of the Ovions who openly [[Ovion Wars|warred with the humans]] for reasons unknown.
=== Miscellany ===
|-

| [[Cylonics]] || {{TOS|Cylons}} || In the [[Original Series]], Cylons are robots ''not'' created by humankind. As with the [[Re-imagined Series]], ''1880'' also has the Cylons (or "Cylonics") created to serve man.
* While {{alt|Boxey|TOS}} and {{alt|Muffit}} are seen, they do not participate in this tale.
|-
| {{1880|Daggit}} || [[Daggit]] || In the [[Original Series]], daggits are canine creatures, while the ''1880'' version is humanoid.
|-
| {{1880|Ovions}} || [[Ovions]] || In the [[Original Series]], Ovions served in "[[The Alliance]]" created by the {{TOS|Cylons}}, whereas the ''1880'' version features them as victims of the Cylonics in their [[Ovion Wars|conflict against the humans]].
|-
| ''{{1880|Proteus}}'' || [[Proteus]] || Both are prisons; ''Proteus'' in ''1880'' is a Cylonic prison ship, while the [[Original Series]] counterpart is a Colonial prison planet lost to the Colonials.
|-
| {{1880|Rising Star}} || ''{{TOS|Rising Star}}'' || In the [[Original Series]], ''Rising Star'' is a luxury liner, whereas the ''1880'' series features it as an outlaw planet ruled by Queens.
|-
| ''{{1880|Starchaser}}'' || ''[[Starchaser]]'' || In the [[Original Series]], ''Starchaser'' is Starbuck's modified {{TOS|Viper}} seen in "[[The Long Patrol]]" (where Proteus is also introduced), whereas the ''1880'' counterpart makes it more of a transport in the style of ''[[wookieepedia:Millennium Falcon|Millennium Falcon]]''.

==Analysis==
==Analysis==

* The use of a "[[black hole]]" to transport {{alt|The Fleet|TOS}} to another universe aligns with some theoretical concepts relating to either charged [[w:Reissner–Nordström metric|Reissner-Nordström]] or rotating [[w:Kerr metric|Kerr]] black holes.
* The use of a singularity to transport the Fleet elsewhere (also planned by {{alt|Iblis}}) is a trope that appears again in the {{comics|vs}} series.
* Adama being tortured by visions of his past is a trope also visited previously in the Berkley novel, ''[[The Nightmare Machine]]'', as well as prior to that in ''[[The Memory Machine]]''—a story polot line that factors into a larger part of [[Marvel Comics]]' 1978-79 run.
* {{alt|Lucifer}}'s pursuit of power continues unabated, even more intensely without the influence of his human mentor, {{alt|Baltar|TOS}}. This is in keeping with Lucifer's actions and motives in "[[Lost Planet of the Gods, Part II]]."

==Questions==
==Questions==

* How does a "black hole" mysteriously appear right before ''{{alt|Galactica|TOS}}'' without warning? ({{comics|vol3|4|Answer}})
* Is there an external force keeping Adama in a coma? ({{comics|vol3|2|Answer}})
* Is Adama able to influence the past at the [[Battle of Cimtar]]? ({{comics|vol3|2|Answer}})
* What ship crashed on the [[Iblis' planet]] that caused the huge impact crater?
* What are the motives of the denizens of said planet who come to welcome them?
* Where did the [[Meclons|other Cylons]] come from, and why are they attacking Lucifer's forces? ({{comics|vol3|2|Partial Answer}})

==Noteworthy Dialogue==
==Noteworthy Dialogue==

* '''"Baltar"''': Say what you will about the {{alt|Cylons|TOS}}, but they have no demons. No devils. Save for {{alt|Iblis||those who created them}}! In that way, they are not so different {{alt|Adama|TOS|from you}}.

* ''After exiting the [[black hole]], {{alt|Lucifer}} receives word that a few smaller ships from {{alt|The Fleet|TOS}} were destroyed:''

== Official Statements ==
: '''Lucifer''': {{alt|Galactica|TOS|That ship}}—and the humans it houses—is far too annoying to be destroyed so easily. And so... here we are... pursuing our enemy through a [[black hole]]... into the heart of unknown space. But the Colonials will not hide for long. Dispatch scouts at once.

: '''Centurion''': [[By your command]].
: '''Lucifer''': Here... in uncharted territory... I will do what the [[Cylon Empire]] has failed to do thus far. I—{{alt|Imperious Leader||above all}}—will be a Cylon like no ''other''.

The Galactica's search for sanctuary takes them beyond the limits of known reality and into a cosmic mystery where the hunters become the hunted, ruin and despair dot the skies, and Adama goes where friend and family can't follow. Cullen Bunn (Sinestro Corps, The Sixth Gun, Deadpool & The Mercs for Money) and Alex Sanchez (Mad Max: Ride, 30 Days Of Night: Spreading the Disease, Katana) invite you on a journey unlike any in the annals of Battlestar Galactica![1]

Plot[edit]

 • A black hole materializes out of nowhere, trapping Galactica and its The Fleet. Unable to escape, Adama orders the Fleet to fly directly into the singularity.
 • In transit, a tanker explodes, knocking Adama unconscious and causing damage to Galactica's control center.
 • Colonel Tigh communicates to the Fleet following its transit through the black hole, reassuring its members that despite the damages and casualties that they will get through their current predicament.
 • Apollo visits the life center where Doctor Salik and Cassiopeia tend to Adama. Salik informs Apollo that Adama has suffered a severe concussion, which has been effectively treated; Salik remains puzzled as to why Adama remains comatose for over 20 centars, noting that Adama's brain activity is well into the conscious range.

Adama[edit]

 • In a dream state, Adama finds himself in his quarters, and is summoned by a voice noting that his "presence is required."
 • Adama then finds himself on the planet that Baltar was left upon, where "Baltar" explains that "we are, all of us, being summoned." As Adama justifies his decision to maroon Baltar in a humane manner despite Baltar's very betrayal of the human race, "Baltar" replies that he "still found hell" in Adama's compassionate act.
 • Adama finds himself amongst Cylons in a basestar throne room, with "Baltar" berating him for bringing a "human evil" into their midst.
 • Adama leaves and finds himself on Galactica's Core Command, reliving the opening attack at Cimtar and asks a befuddled Tigh if they can stop it from happening again.

Patrol[edit]

 • Meanwhile, Apollo leads Starbuck, Boomer and Sheba on a reconnaissance of the new realm they have been deposited into. After consoling a worried Apollo about his father, Sheba detects a planet, thickly-ringed with debris of derelicts. Boomer compares the planet to another one in the Hovian sector, itself featuring a unique magnetic field attracting derelict vessels in the same way.
 • The Viper patrol makes planet fall, and the Warriors encounter a large group of marooned survivors who desire to celebrate the blessings "to those who fell from the heavens and lived."
 • Sheba discovers a large impact crater nearby; Starbuck elects to proceed down to its center, wanting to determine what kind of ship had made it. Apollo elects to ask their welcoming committee for information before climbing down a bottomless pit.

Lucifer's Pursuit[edit]

 • At the exit to the singularity, Lucifer's lone basestar enters the realm, discovering intense interference and signs of destroyed Colonial vessels from the Fleet.
 • Lucifer orders squadrons to scout ahead, with plans to achieve what the Cylon Empire has failed to do thus far: destroy the remaining humans.
 • In this endeavor, they encounter an attacking force... that force is also Cylon.

Noteworthy Dialogue[edit]

Lucifer: That ship—and the humans it houses—is far too annoying to be destroyed so easily. And so... here we are... pursuing our enemy through a black hole... into the heart of unknown space. But the Colonials will not hide for long. Dispatch scouts at once.
Centurion: By your command.
Lucifer: Here... in uncharted territory... I will do what the Cylon Empire has failed to do thus far. I—above all—will be a Cylon like no other.
