I like :D Shane (T - C - E) 09:02, 5 September 2007 (CDT)

Aside from a possible confusion about the terms to people, it seems like a good idea. Not sure about "deckhands/chiefs" though. Maybe "deckhand/officer", "commander/admiral"? Or to go with the mop motif "mopster", "mopboy" or something along those lines? --Serenity 09:51, 5 September 2007 (CDT)
Bah edit conflict lost my comments (IE ftl). My point was that the ideas you posted Joe are all enlisted not officer ranks. Perhaps it would be best to have the following?
  • Joe - Commander
  • Bcrats - Colonel
  • Sysops - Major
  • Trusted - Ensign
  • Bots - Deckhand (bot)
  • --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 09:55, 5 September 2007 (CDT)
I am also liking the squeegie/mopboy titles --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 09:56, 5 September 2007 (CDT)
I want to be a Lieutenant, especially since it doesn't seem to carry any responsibility. :P --Slander 10:03, 5 September 2007 (CDT)
Ranks sound like a good idea. A problem is that the user data template has a rank field now and anyone can give themselves a rank for whatever reason. We'd need to distinguish those from the official admin-like ranks. --Serenity 10:07, 5 September 2007 (CDT)
I agree that there could be a lot of confusion. Rather than assigning ranks, we could assign job types, like knuckledraggers, snipes, Viper jocks, and the ever-beloved mopboy. --Slander 10:14, 5 September 2007 (CDT)
The names we can change are: "B-crat", "Sysop", "Bot", "Interwiki", and "trusted" group names. We have to create a special group just for joe just so he has "Commander" in his name when doing a user look up. :) Shane (T - C - E) 10:54, 5 September 2007 (CDT)
I'm not personally concerned whether or not I have a different name than anyone else. However, who am I to argue if people want to think of me as the Commander? :-) Also, we don't really need to change the name of the Interwiki group. We can leave that alone. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 16:21, 5 September 2007 (CDT)

The ranks may be confusing in that many fan sites use that convention in a similar way. We don't want to confuse Battlestar Wiki's nature with fan sites and their "ships."

I like Joe's original naming: Chiefs are administrators, deckhands are trusted users, all else are crew, except bots, which really should remain the same (it's got its own great name). Joe should get his own title, and "Commander" works for me. B-crats could get "Master Chief" maybe, but that may be confusing with "Halo" players. Maybe "Colonel," but again, avoid the uses of rank too much or we'll get too much into role-play. Perhaps b-crats could be "Senior Chiefs". (Didn't anyone catch my new deckhand costume, by the way? :) --Spencerian 11:25, 5 September 2007 (CDT)

Senior chief sounds good. That also makes them closer to administrators in name, which is a good idea, because b-crats really aren't all that different. --Serenity 11:36, 5 September 2007 (CDT)
Yep. We could rename the Bots to Cylons. :D I am like Senior Chiefs and Chiefs. trusted should be Crew. :) Shane (T - C - E) 11:42, 5 September 2007 (CDT)
And contributor-level accounts are "Civilians." I was thinking about the Cylon-bots, too, but wondered if that would cause confusion...probably not. Too easy and obvious for us NOT to use! --Spencerian 11:52, 5 September 2007 (CDT)
It's already alluded to on Mop Boy#Robotic moppers --Serenity 11:58, 5 September 2007 (CDT)
Ah, my two seconds of glory :D Personally, I support the Commander/Senior Chief/Chief/Deckhand (Deckhand being trusted). --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 12:42, 5 September 2007 (CDT)
The bots could be referred to as "toasters" or "logic bombs." I rather like the idea of looking at a page's history and seeing that it's been attacked by a logic bomb. Also, awesome costume, Spence! --Slander 15:42, 5 September 2007 (CDT)
"Master chief" is more of a military role as it pertains to something like the ROTC, thus I prefer "senior chief" for bureaucrats. I'm fine with the Commander/Senior Chief/Chief/Deckhand as done above. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 16:21, 5 September 2007 (CDT)
It's just the next rank in the petty officer line. PO, Chief PO, Senior Chief PO, Master Chief PO. Though Master Chief reminds to much of "Halo" and Senior Chief comes after Chief anyways. --Serenity 16:31, 5 September 2007 (CDT)
