Requests for bureaucratship (Rfb) is the process by which this wiki's community decides who should be a Bureaucrat (B-Crat). B-Crat have access to changing usernames, changing one "user rights", and resolving a dispute.

About RfB[edit]

The community grants bureaucratship status to trusted users who are familiar with Battlestar Wiki's policies. B-Crat held to high standards, as they are often perceived as the "official face" of Battlestar Wiki. B-Crat should be courteous and should exercise good judgment and patience in dealing with others. Nominees should have been with Battlestar Wiki long enough for people to see whether they have these qualities. However, they do not need to be a sysop to be nominated to an B-Crat.

Nomination standards
There are no official prerequisites for B-Cratness, other than a basic level of trust from other editors. However, some users set a variety of standards on a personal basis. You may nominate yourself. Some people apply higher standards to self-nominations, while others view them more favorably as showing initiative and desire to serve the community.
Nomination process
Any user in good standing may nominate any other user. Nominations remain for seven days from the time the nomination is posted on this page, during which time interested users register their opinions or make comments. At the end of that period, candidates who receive consensus supported will be made B-Crat. Head Wikipedian for Battlestar Wiki, Joe Beaudoin Jr., has the final say.
In exceptional circumstances, Joe Beaudoin may extend the deadline or call for a revote if this will make the consensus more clear. If your nomination fails, please wait a reasonable period of time – at least a month – before nominating yourself again or accepting another nomination.
Bureaucrats, please use {{subst:rfbp}}-{{subst:rfbb}} as a header and footer, respectively, when closing a successful nomination. Similarly, use {{subst:rfbf}}-{{subst:rfbb}} for a failed nomination.
How to nominate an editor for B-Crat
To nominate either yourself or another user for B-Crat, follow the instructions on this page.
Voting and commenting
Any Wikipedian with an account is welcome to vote, including the nominator (however, because the focus is on whether other people in the community trust the user, self-nominating candidates or nominees should not vote for themselves). To add your vote, click the "Vote here" link for the relevant candidate. You may then indicate whether you support or oppose the nomination by signing your name under the relevant heading.
Please include a short explanation of your reasoning, particularly when opposing a nomination. Remember that we are all people with feelings, emotions and pride: please respect others in your comments and responses.
Neutral votes are also permitted, but not necessarily counted in determining percentages, although they will be considered by bureaucrats in borderline cases. Discussions should be held in the Comments section. Long discussions should be held on the discussion page of the individual nomination.
If you are new to Battlestar Wiki, it is believed that new users may not fully understand the nuances or job responsibilities of an B-Crat. Therefore, while new users are encouraged to comment on RFBs, they may not vote. Should they vote, their votes will not be counted. A new user, as defined by this RFB process, is a user who has joined the wiki. A user is no longer "new" after a period of a 30 days. It should be made exceptionally clear that this is not an effort to disenfranchise voters, but to ensure that voters know the duties and responsibilities of an B-Crat and to vote accordingly based not on superficial criteria but on the actions of the potential B-Crat.
Executive privilege
Please note that in special, extenuating circumstances, Joe Beaudoin may exercise executive privilege and appoint a user to B-Crat status. (At the same time, should the issue arise, an B-Crat may have their privileges revoked by Joe Beaudoin for any reason.)

Current nominations[edit]

Nominations must be accepted by the user in question. If you nominate a user, leave a message on their talk page and ask them to reply here if they accept the nomination.

Please remember to update the vote-tallies in the headers when voting.

Shane (talkcontribsedit countpage movesblock userblock log) – I have helped out the Battlestar Wiki tirelessly to help maintain the site and servres. I beleive that you, the users of Battlestar Wiki, can entrust me with enforcing the rules of the Wiki at a higher level now. Helping create policy has now been my strong point with the user of the Think Tank and other tools that we have created. People see me as a leader and I respect that.

Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here: I accept. :-) Shane (T - C - E) 15:21, 9 April 2007 (CDT)

Support

  1. Support. This is a de facto vote to me. Shane's Jedi-like wiki skills as well as hardware and software support make this one obvious to me. As with all of us, it's still important to watch how you phrase things at the right time, but other than that, Shane's work on the wiki merits this tiny extra bit of responsibility (and spreads the power of the Squeegee). --Spencerian 16:45, 9 April 2007 (CDT)
  2. Support Aye. He's basically already an uber-boss. --Serenity 17:06, 9 April 2007 (CDT)
  3. Support Clear dedication to the wiki both as an editor and also all the stuff behind the scenes that keeps everything running hunky dory. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 03:08, 10 April 2007 (CDT)
  4. Support I am shocked Shane is not a bureaucrat yet, as he pretty much looks like Joe's second-in-command to me. But apart from that, he's worthy of the job. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 09:36, 10 April 2007 (CDT)
  5. Support Has demonstrated tremendous amounts of dedication, willingness to listen and collaborate, and vision. I don't know what the B-crat to admin ratio ought to be, and I'd trust anybody I've voted in as a sysop as a B-crat, but Shane is clearly an outstanding candidate. --Steelviper 10:10, 10 April 2007 (CDT)
  6. Support What can I add that everyone else hasn't already said? A very worthy candidate. JubalHarshaw 10:13, 10 April 2007 (CDT)

Questions for the candidate[edit]

1. Have you read the discussions on when to promote and not promote? What do you understand the criteria for promotion to be?
A. Yes. A sysop has to have not only a firm standing on the polices of the wiki, but able to know when he/she must do the right thing.
2. How would you deal with contentious nominations where a decision to promote or not promote might be criticized?
A. I would remind people that voting for sysops is not a popularity contest and it's seen as one's ability to help with wiki be maintained.
3. Battlestar Wiki expect Bureaucrats to adhere to high standards of fairness, knowledge of policy and the ability to engage others in the community. Why do you feel you meet those standards?
A. I am involved without a lot of the policy discusstions already and engage myself in the Think tank debates when I think it's needed.
4. If you become a bureaucrat, will you pledge not to discuss promotion or non-promotion of potential admins on any other forum during the course of nominations and especially when making a decision? And to discuss issues of promotion or non-promotion only with other bureaucrats, in their talk, where such discussion would be transparent?
A. Yes. Showing favoritism is not good.
5. Do you have the time and do you have the desire to visit BW:RFA on a regular basis to see to the promotion or delisting of candidates in a timely manner?
A. Yes. I watch that page closely already. ;-)
