Battlestar Group

"BSG" is an acronym for "Battlestar Group" and is also an acronym for the television series, Battlestar Galactica. See Battlestar Galactica for links to the series, the ships, and other general information about the series.

Battlestar groups are comprised of at least one battlestar, plus a number of support vessels. Given the number of available battlestars at the outbreak of hostilities with the Cylon attack, it is possible that a battlestar group may have comprised a number (3-4) battlestars operating as a single unit, supported by additional Colonial vessels.

The above information is seen by Ronald D. Moore as analogous to a modern-day aircraft carrier battle group.

Known Battlestar Groups

The following battlestar groups are known to have existed before the Fall of the Twelve Colonies:

• BSG 41: Includes the battlestar Valkyrie.
• BSG 62: Led by Mercury class battlestar Pegasus, under Commander Lee Adama, ship destroyed in the Battle of New Caprica.
• BSG 75: Led by battlestar Galactica, under Admiral William Adama.
